99 r6 Bike died in the middle of a ride
Just finished rebuilding my bike. Went for a ride and it died a ways from my house. Thank god for cell phones.
It has had some trouble starting. Almost requiring me to charge the Battery for I would try to fire it up. Today it fired up no problem. About 20 minuets in to the ride I noticed the gaugues loosing power and coming back on. Thought plug might have been loose. Then i try to turn on my high beems and it causes the engine to rapidly change RPMs for a quick second. About 30 seconds after it started to die down I gave it more gas but it died down I pulled the clutch in went to second and tryed to pop it to get it running ( might be a car habbit) but nothing happened i managed to get out of traffic and weight a few hours for a bussie with a truck to come pick me up.
What could be the causes?
Battery not being to able to hold at least 12V?
CDI fried?
Loose wires?
Stupid mechanic?

Friend of mine just had the exact same thing happen to his 01 R6. The problem was the battery and something else. I'll post up next time I talk to him. Are you still on the original battery the bike came with?

My R6 had the same trouble after i rebuilt it! The problem turned out to be a damaged stator coil. The fly-wheel had scraped the inside coils off the stator during the accident which i couldn't see unless i removed the stator off the crank. Check yours and let us all know if this is the prob

dude use a multi meter and check your volts, from your stator to the rectifier, i had the same problem on my 900rr, the stator charges your battery at about 16 volts and your rectifier drops the current down to about 13.4 volts, witch charges your battery, so if your rectifier is fuggd u are over charging your battery and killing it, if your stator if fugged well your battery is not getting any charge, and normally if your stator blows so does your rectifier......

"the same thing happend to me and it was the regulator rectifier. if you dont have it your battery goes dead,"
My friend has an 01 R6 same thing happened to him... It was that rectifier thing... It takes like 2 seconds to change it out.. Also have you jump started your bike with a car ever? When we swapped his rectifier we had to replace some burnt cables. The guy @ the sportbike shop around here said it was from jumping the bike with a car, which we did 2 days prior...
