Re: Learning wheelies

do you stand up before you clutch it up...or do you stand up while it's coming up...or how do you actually go about it...because when I'm standing up and try to clutch it up...it seems like I don't have good grip on the throttle and clutch lever/handle bars...so should I just stand up as it's coming up? wouldn't that cause more momentum upwards and easier to loop? Someone help me because I get sitdowns in first going almost to BP but haven't quite found it yet...maybe once but not for long...I want to try stand ups to see if they are easier

Re: Learning wheelies

I'm trying to bounce and power them up in second. Should I be clutching them?

It seems like it takes a lot of coordination.

What about body position?

Re: Learning wheelies

Stand ups are the way to go. When I first started doing wheelies all I did was sit downs. I looped two sit downs but I was also doing power wheelies. Sit downs feel uncomfortable especially when trying to hit BP. Stand ups are easier to launch and balance.

Same here. I was trying sit downs for ever and sucking, and my boy BJ kept saying "do standups, do standups, do standups" but every time I tried them, they felt really weird, but then I filmed myself doing them, and could see where the bike was at and realized hey that is nothing I can go so much higher. So easy to bring up a standup. It helps if you stagger your stance (left foot on back peg)

Sitdowns definitely feel a lot different. I find it harder to gauge where the front end is at in relation to the ground. And obviously it's harder to see wehre you are goign which also bothers me.

One weird thing about me (off topic) when i'm doing standups I clutch with one finger, but when sitting I clutch with two....

Yes you should clutch them. Power wheelies will make you loooooooop. Because in a power wheelie it comes up slow, then it hits a point and it flies up on you.

Get a nice wide straight stretch of road. Have your arms slightly bent. Put your left foot back on the rear peg. Stand up. you probably don't need to bounce but you can if you want. And when you bounce it, it doesn't have to be hard, just a little quick bounce, and while your body is coming back up from the bounce, quickly and smoothly (I use one finger) release the clutch while rolling on the throttle....and there yo have it, you are doing a wheelie!

Re: Learning wheelies

I still have problem with my stand ups... I know they are the way to go but when the bike comes up on a stand up it feels like the torque of the bike is working against your body and forces you to sit down. I just need a lil more practice but the problem is I got my sit downs so good now that I feel like I'm back at square one on the standup.

Where do I find a sit down exorcist ?

I can do both but I either clutch or bounce and clutch. I've gotten it up a couple times off just bounce to see if I could but never tried to ride them out cause I don't trust power wheelies.

Re: Learning wheelies

Two of my friends do really long 2nd gear standups and both say that they bounce and power them up to bp........what gives?

I'm not a having a problem sitting or standing 1st gear. I always clutch them.

BTW, I'm starting to get them up good by power/bouncing in 2nd.

I guess I'll try clutching and revving the **** outta them tomorrow.

Re: Learning wheelies

O.K. I just got in from riding.

Starting to get real comfortable clutching 2nd up. Now it feels better to clutch up than try and bounce it. I'm getting 'em up high, just not to bp in 2nd. I'm trying to take my time and learn the feel for it right.

Thanks a lot to forcefedfreak, you helped me a lot!

Re: Learning wheelies

I got familiar with the feeling of popping the clutch at first sitting down, but once I got the front wheel to come up a little bit I started standing up staggered and never looked back!
