How do you get paid to stunt?
How do you get paid to stunt?
Hello all. I joined this site to help my boyfriend follow his dreams to get paid to stunt. He's been riding dirtbikes all his life and now is into street bikes so I'm trying to be supportive and find out information on what he needs to do to get discovered. He is already a prospect for the Ruff Riders Valley Chapter so he's networking there. If anyone has experience in this I would appreciate a comment or message back. At first I didn't think it was a real career and since we have a son to support I was against it at first but as long as it is a real thing where he can get paid to do what he loves then I just need more information. Thank you.
Re: How do you get paid to stunt?
Bad career choice.... If this is even a serious thread.... Stuntin is a lifestyle for most of us.... And a hobby for some. But only a few people make it without a day job. Seriously.
And if just a little extra income is all he's lookin for and has a day gig, I would look into some of the threads some of the bigger names have chimed in on about portfolios. Local sponsors are the only one's I think at this point that would even listen to some random up and comer. If you don't already have local guys in your area... There are alot of big names in the game now that travel the country doin shows. And they still have jobs as well.

Re: How do you get paid to stunt?
It is a serious thread. He met some guy in the Ruff Riders that is supposedly a millionaire and has a 30 thousand dollar bike and gets paid to just stunt and that's it and ever since then he has been hell bent on doing that. He is kind of the impulsive type and wants fast money doing what he loves. I don't know much about this career because I always thought it was just a hobby, but he's acting like its the whole world. I told him to be realistic and even though he has skills he would have to out do people that have been riding for way longer and take more chances with their stunts. I just wish I had a man who knows this stuff to talk to him because I really think he needs a reality check.

OH and If your BF wants to head to XDL or Stunt wars and go up
against them and think he can take them... then MAYBE and I Mean
MAYBE he has a chance of making money doing shows, attempting
to make money. (It's not something you can just decide you're a
stunter and start making money)
and you can also kiss him goodbye for ever being around and
not out on his bike Practicing...

Re: How do you get paid to stunt?
Well I'm glad I finally have someone that knows what they're talking about. I tried to tell him how hard it will be if it were to even happen but he apparently has to learn the hard way. He also is interested in being a motorcycle mechanic but the only school we know of is in Arizona which he can't do because he has a kid and his baby's momma would flip out. Do you know of any other way he can get into that? I find it to be a way more realistic goal.
Re: How do you get paid to stunt?
Interesting thread.....I manage professional athletes and a couple of Europe's top stunt riders.
Sponsors are hard to find, but not impossible.
Like I tell everyone I manage, you really need to find a reputable agent or manager to work on your behalf.... and never have the rider try to negotiate their own sponsorships.
(I always give them the comparison of WHY I don't do my own dental work, taxes or engine rebuilds....) It's not what I DO.... Nor should they try to market themselves, negotiate their own sponsorships or not wear a helmet....because it all ends up getting ugly PDQ.
Having said that, there are some solid companies out there looking for exposure on someone's leathers, bike, website and social network...and in return, you can get swag, cash and trips all over the world.
Think Ken Block....guy destroys cars for a living and drives it he stole it, and makes a living doing so. (Mind you, he is the 1% of those who do what he does, and doesn't need 3 jobs to make ends meet....)
In the US the competition is FIERCE....Cash isn't easy to come by, and decent managers are few and far between.
Ask lots of questions, get references and if you are all that and a bag of chips and want to make a go of it, feel free to ask me some questions and see if I can help you out. Don't mind helping out talented athletes looking to make their mark.
