rear sprocket question...

I own a '99 yamaha yzf-r6. From what this website is telling me (haibikeshop.com), is that my stock gearing is 16-48-532. I always thought 600's would run a smaller pitch, more like 525. So this is my scenario... I want to go +10 teeth in the rear, new chain, and keep my front oem sprocket. Now I want to order these parts, but i am somewhat confused as to what i need to order. When specifying the pitch, they show 520, 525 and 530. Do I order the 530, since they are saying my stock pitch is 532? And as for the sprocket, I was looking at the Vortex over-sized sprockets, 55t-74t... When ordering the part, I am guessing i need to specify the tooth count? Since my stock rear sprocket has 48 teeth, I would ask for a 58 tooth sprocket? Thanks for the help...

Re: rear sprocket question...

i learned on a stock 2002 YZF-R6, Stock Gearing, all i had was a cage.. (same as your bike with a different tailight)

http://media.putfile.com/jstunt2

Going +10 on a touchy *** R6 is not going to make you stunt better, make your wheelies longer, or make you look cool... i highly suggest calling HAI and asking them to order you a 15tooth 532 pitch STEAL front sprocket from Sprocket specialists which they should be able to do. once you get better at stunting you will learn alot more about what parts you need to purchase...

Im not trying to stunt better, im trying to learn, lol. I want to learn wheelies slow. I guess I have to get the ***** to actually clutch it up, but some experienced friends of mine told me not to clutch first gear up because it comes up really fast on my bike. So I figured that if I put the larger sprocket I could attempt these wheelies at a slower speed and if I bust my *** it wont be as bad since I will be traveling slower. As of right now, all I can really do is power wheelie first gear, and it doesnt come up that high. Ive been getting it to go farther though, but I want to be able to get up to balance point. Guess all i really need to do is start clutching it up and stop being a bitch, lol.

As for the sprocket advice, your saying to just go -1 tooth on the front sprocket? That would be pretty much like going +3 in the rear. Will that be good for me to learn with?

Re: rear sprocket question...

-1 will help take alot of stress off your clutch... and it wont make your bike to much twitchier... No one that does slow wheelies on stuntlife does power wheelies so learn to clutch it up, then learn to be consistant, then work on height...

Ive been told to learn wheelies on stock gearing, clutching it up in first gear around 15mph. I guess i just need to find a lot and practice doing it because its iffy on the street with all the cops lurking around every corner. plus i dont wanna bust my *** and get ran over ontop of that, lol.

I ordered a sick innovations cage and a moose e-z pull clutch lever. My main problem is pulling it in with one finger. Its not easy enough to be "comfortable" to me. Lever should be here wednesday, cage maybe another week or two.

What speed are you clutching it up at? My main concern is to NOT loop it. I am not experienced with clutching whatsoever. I know its a quick procedure but how high do you rev it up to? and do you just dump the clutch or do you slip it?

Re: rear sprocket question...

you need more time just riding your bike before u stunt.. btw you are going to demolish every fairing on it.. and you will loop eventualy..

try reading the how to wheelie threads.

Re: rear sprocket question...

I've read them, very informative. Thanks for your advice Wheeliest, I appreciate it. I'm not trying to be king of the street in a week, I just want to figure out a platform where I can start clutching it up so I can learn little by little, not coming up too high, getting consistent and so forth before I progress onto higher longer wheelies.

k7-600 will become famous soon enough
Re: rear sprocket question...

start at the same speed each time, and when you engage the clutch to increase the rpms, start increasing about 3-4000 then if that's not bringing it up, gradually increase in incraments of 500 - 1000 rpm's until it becomes comfortable and consistent. and further to bp.

and practice practice practice
