Throttle Choppin and long sitdowns
Throttle Choppin and long sitdowns
I have a question with regards to throttle choppin. Should I be able to ride a sitdown wheelie for a mile only clutchin it up and minor throttle blips? Or is the only way to ride a long smooth sitdown to 1) clutch it up, 2) catch it with the brake 3) feather the brake while keeping the throttle constant.
Standups are easy to ride for a few miles. But LONG sitdowns are pretty tough. Do I need to devote a few days at the spot to really work on my throttle control on my 1000rr?

Re: Throttle Choppin and long sitdowns
sitdowns are harder for me, ive been working on them more lately. I can ride a standup for miles and miles until my arms get numb to where i cant hold on.
Sitdowns get wobbly on me usually, and hard to see. But i think long steep sitdowns look gangsta. Choppy throttle will make it harder to keep a sitdown smooth compared to a standup where you can compinsate for a lil chop

"But I think long steep sitdowns look gangsta" Your ****** funny. you took the words right outta my mouth. i wish I could do em. I'm with you on the long highway standups till ur arms get numb. But these long sitdowns are just an itch I gotta scratch. Frustrating as hell.

Re: Throttle Choppin and long sitdowns
i barely use the brake if i feel like i'm too far back I'll just give it a little tappy
but you pretty much have to make small throttle adjustments the whole time when doing long wheelies with any type of speed

Re: Throttle Choppin and long sitdowns
Yeah, the trick with sitdowns is where you sit. If you sit with your lower back all the way to the passenger seat then the bike will come up easier, but balancing it is a lot tougher. Unless you are super smooth with how you bring it up this way then it's surely going to wobble. On the other hand, if you sit with your junk against the tank and grip the tank with your legs then you will have to clutch it up a bit harder, but it will be much more stable and easier to balance. I've been battling with the sitdown for a while now and where you sit makes a world of difference.
If you want a better explanation of the proper mechanics of a sitdown then check out Matt Gorka and Kyle Woods' Level X wheelie video. Matt gives a good explanation using a pool cue reference. It does make a lot of sense.
In short, it's easier to balance with more weight higher up towards the tank then if you sit back by the passenger seat.

Re: Throttle Choppin and long sitdowns
Oh yeah, and be good and smooth with the throttle. No need to chop it or use the rear brake in most situations. A lot of people ride sitdowns with throttle control alone and not even tapping the rear brake. You can get good enough to use all throttle and reserve your rear brake for emergency landings.
Re: Throttle Choppin and long sitdowns
Yeah, long sit-downs are killin! I saw this one guy, he just had one hand on the throttle, the other in his lap,and he was going like that for a while...
Man, on this other stunt forum, I was always told to sit back from the tank....And I've been doing that, but I have to fight to keep it stable...I'm gonna try to sit right up on the tank next time...
I really need to learn how to turn (both sit-downs and stand-ups)Any suggestions?
And I really think that TURNING while doing a sit-down looks
:YEAH Looks almost effortless, like ur just driving along, Whereas w/stand-ups u can tell by the leaning (from what I've seen anyway)
