Chain and sprocket pitch
Chain and sprocket pitch
I am running a 520 pitch chain and Geared Steel sprocket on a '01 F4i right now. I was thinking about switching to a 530 pitch to have a stronger setup. The last thing I want to do is break a chain during a spreader or high chair. Is it advisable to go the 530 route? What kind of change in power/smoothness can I expect with the added rotating mass and inertia? If I do go with a 530 I am going to go with another Geared sprocket...are there any companies that offer 130-link 530 chains and 530 pitch front sprockets for an F4i?
Thanks for any help and advice.

Re: Chain and sprocket pitch
The extra weight will help with the engine brake but not much. The 520 pitch is sold as saving enoff weight to = 2 to 3 hp in less rotating mass. Honistly I dont think you will notice much of a diff. ..
As fot the strenght part If you buy a good quality chain (520) and keep it lubed it should be as safe as a 530. Unless you need a new chain and sprockets I would not spend the $$$

Re: Chain and sprocket pitch
yeah please use the 530 setup, I think 520's on streetbikes is retarded....ive snapped 520 chains on dirtbikes that have less than 30 HP and thats in the dirt. tensile strength on a 530 is much higher than a 520....and your not goign to notice any weight or performance differences.
