New to slow stuff, HELP!
New to slow stuff, HELP!
Whats up guys? I could use a little advice from someone that knows whats goins ons. So I used to do long freeway wheelies on my 04' gsxr, I got to where I could do them for over a mile. Now i got a 01 f4i... feels WAY different at bp but im workin on it. Had it a couple months now and I been practicing clutchin 1st gears at near stop and I haven't been using the rear brake so my questions are...
1-Should I keep practicing on slowing down the 1st gears without using the rear brake?
2-If I need to be using the rear brake now, should I use the foot brake or get a hand brake?
3-It is -1 in front now, should I keep working til I get it down with that gearing and then change it or should I change it first? Good starting point for gearing?
I know its all opinions, but I'm just startin to try the slow stuff and would like some advice from someone thats been there and got it.
Thanks!

Re: New to slow stuff, HELP!
1- the rear brake is a must if you want to go slow but don't use it if your going fast or you will over heat the fluid and then if you need it to save your self it won't be there
2- you should learn the rear brake first
3- you can go slow with stock gear but it is easier with alot of gear so if you plan on doing circles and stuff like that more gear would make it easier and in that case i think you should learn on the gear yor gonna run so you don't have to get use to it all over again once you change it

Not a good idea. Once you learn it, change your setup, you will have to learn it over again. Yeah it would be easier to learn it again since you already have the knowledge of how to do it, but to make things easier, learn it on the setup you plan on using for awhile. Thats just from my own personal experience.

I'll also say that the old man is right offten enoff to take his advice above most others.
Re: New to slow stuff, HELP!
I just learned to slow wheelie myself, Yes, learn the footbrake first.. it's mad easy when you're going slow and behind bp. How I learned was foot in the subframe, knee in the seat, clutching it up from a dead stop. I also have my idle at 3k so often times I just need to use the rear brake and not touch the throttle at all.
Or you could learn staggered, that's what I was doing before, and after I did it with foot in the subframe (foot in the seat would be the same thing basically).
Edit: This was on stock gearing, few times I've got it down to where it was almost at stall point. Only one time did I stall during a wheelie.

Re: New to slow stuff, HELP!
When I was stunting my old 600RR, I had stock gears. I got used to it and got pretty good. Went down 2 in the front and went up 2 in the back. Changed it so much I had to learn how to do it again with my new gears. I know what i'm talking about because I went through this before
Re: New to slow stuff, HELP!
Get the brake down like roger said. You can get gearing or not. I had your same bike and gearing when learning. Just keep bringing it back and slowing it down some with the brake. Get to where you pop it up in 1st around 5-10 mph then ride em out no higher then 25 mph. Oh and get a stainless steel line for the back. I got vid of my dragging the **** outta the rear brake with the rotor just glowing red hot and never had a problem with brake fad.
Your killing me roger. you dont use the brake for fast stuff. I use it for everything, just like happy gilmore said, " tap tap tap tap it, little tap ur ooo."
