bmx and stunting

hey guys i just wanted to ask a quick question and see what your opinions are.

i am new to riding and im gonna be getting my first bike soon. most of my friends have been riding/stunting for years and i just never got around to getting a bike. i built several really fast turbo civics instead.

anyways im gonna give it a shot since it was something i always wanted to do but didnt have the funds to play with at that time. i, unlike alot of other noob people on this site have read, done my research and talked to many people so im not gonna post some bullshit about how to do a wheelie or talk about how i need a hand brake. i just wanted to know if anyone on here rode bmx meaning like anything other than racing. i have been riding my bike since i was 5 and i was actually sponsored for awhile and getting some flow from a few places for parts and whatnot so its not like i sucked at it.

what i wanted to know is how being a skilled rider on a reg. bike (understanding weight transfer, how to use rear brake to control a manual ect..) would that be giving me any sort of advantage when switching over to motorcycles?

i pick things up super quick and i feel as if i have good bike control/balance skills already in that aspect. plus i think i have the correct mentality to be doing something like this. throwing yourself down 20stair handrails has to count for something in the ***** department.

just looking for some input from some others on here that may have been in the same boat and their expirences with it.

thanks :YEAH

Re: bmx and stunting

Of course it will help. I mean, its really all the same concept. If you can wheelie your reg bike no problem, you can wheelie a motorcycle. The only differences is your power source and controls!

Otherwise, that feeling you get when you're at or beyond balance point feels pretty much the same, and your second-nature rear brake skill will kick right in, no matter what type of bike your on.

But you have to obviously respect the power of your motorcycle a bit more than your reg bike.

yea i agree. you have to respect your car/bike or anything that can hurt you or thats when **** gets bad.

i knew there would be alot of applied concepts i just didnt know if they would be benificial at all or more or less just not so important.

i feel as if i will progress quickly and i cant wait for this weather to break so i can get out there

i suggest getting an inbetween bike tho, cause it'll be a habit you gotta brake to use your footbrake instead of trying to grab a lever.

Re: bmx and stunting

yea i was thinking the same thing.

i think i would be good with a handbrake because of the bmx background but i wanna master the foot brake before that even tho i think it would come easier to me.

Exactly.

Just learn the controls of your motorcycle and don't confuse it with your reg bike!

Re: bmx and stunting

Anything that has the concept of brake control, or weight transfer will help you out with stunting... PERIOD. Ideally, riding a quad or 50 is a great way to learn brake control without risking crashing all that much.

Re: bmx and stunting

well you have to throw in the weight of the bike into the equation. I've raced motocross for about 10 years, that has helped me out a lot, but going from a 200lb dirt bike to a 400lb streetbike was a big difference

your bmx skill will prob come in handy somewhere along the way, but now your gonna have to worry about throttle control instead of pedaling with your feet

essentially thats ALL stunting is. its bmx flatland on a motorcyle minus being able to use your feet to move around. although all the flatland vids i have seen latley its all rolling brakeless stuff and its gotten really insane. i could see where being good at flatland would apply greatly to stunting.

too bad all i did was make fun of the guys with the short frames that hung out in parking lots instead of riding street all thoes years haha
