Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Does your front rim look the same size as your rear?

I know that. But street tires are obviously better than dirt tires on the STREET
Since you are such a smart ***..

Dirt bikes work better in the dirt...********.
The only reason you would absofuckingluetly need a street tire would be for track type racing. I've done pleanty of 0's on dirt bikes with dirt tires of all sizes...when I went to a street tire it took an hour or so to dial them back in...so don't think you have to have a street tire.

Just some food for thought, take it as you want.

PS, there are LOTS of street tires made for a 16/18 or 19 combo.

I meant if I bought a front street tire that had a size close to that of my rear rim, if it would be safe to ride on...

I'm trying to preserve my brand new dirt tires for when I sell the bike.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

The front tire is 70/100-19 and the rear tire 90/100-16

Meaning the rim on the front is 19 and the rear is 16

The front is a 19 inch rim so it would be impossible to fit that on a 16 inch rim, so your question would be no.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

One last thing...when I was a cheap bastard (actaully still am) I would just do the rear tire to street and keep the front dirt (another reason is cuz I also love dirt) if you like to ride whuulies like me the front tire wont be on the ground when you ride and the dirt tire will be fine...have fun

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Yeah I was only looking for a rear tire.
_____

Which would be better to buy for my rear rim:

A Cheng Shin front tire size 100/90-16

-or-

A Cheng Shin rear tire size 80/90-16
_____

The front 100/90-16 tire is wider than the 80/90-16 right?
Both the front and rear tires would fit my 16" rim.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Yes get the 100/90 as it would be better.
The 80 would be harder to put on...pain in the ***.

Get an extra tube if you are not use to doing this.
Make sure you read on tire changing.
IF you are a complete newbie I suggest you buy some tire irons and not use screw drivers cuz you will pop tubes and make sure you use soap and water all over the tire to put in on. Slighty fill the tube with air when puting on the new tire.

When taking off the rear to do the change. Take off one side 1st then remove the tube then remove the rest of the tire. Sproket side down 1st.

Good luck.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Yep yep. I've done tire changes many times. Everything you said is exactly how I do 'em!
_____

So although the 100/90/16 is specified as a "front tire," there are no safety issues if I put it on my rear?

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Actually...the more I look at the profile on that tire the better I find it more fitting for you as this will be your first attemps to circle (assuming)

The profile on the tire is flat compared to many and it wont make you turn in so fast when you start the lean...if that make sense to you. So I would give that bad boy a try.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

To give you an idea about what I am talking about compared to the ebay tire.

Here is a tire that will fit your bike but there is very steep angle that is a more of an advanced angle than you need to start with, would be great for tighter 0's but no so easy to learn on. I also speak from experiance and not speaking out my ***...

That ebay tire is primo...DO IT.
You can thank me later

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Yeah I am trying to get into tighter circles. I can already steer around and do full circles, but I can't get them within a 3 foot turning radius .

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Umm, the tire you linked to is a front tire...

You said that you can't put a front tire on your rear...
