Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

How do I cut the knobbies off my old dirt tires and shave the rubber till it's smooth as slicks?

These tires are my old set and have already been worn down a lot. The knobbies are only quarter-inch above the low rubber part.

Any articles online? Help right here? Thanks!

I considered that, but it would take forever, and if you pushed down on the rear wheel, you'd be killing your engine.

Plus, you'd only get it smooth in the center of the tire. No good for circles.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Explain why besides money that you won't just go buy a street tire for the rear?

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Well, if you can tell me exactly where I can get a street tire to fit my 150's rear rim (which is 90/100-16), then I'll get it. Obviously I've looked around already and found nothing...

It needs to be cheap though.

They have a 100/80 16 that might fit. Better option then cutting your nobbies off.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

When I'm buying a tire, what sizes have to be the same? My dirt tire is 90/100-16.

Can someone tell me what each of these three numbers mean?

my rear tyre is 110/80-18,the sizing goes like this 110=width of tyre,80=depth of wall,18"=wheel size

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

You don't need street tires to do 0's on a 50/110/150/250/450/650
This is a fact!

Less typing and more riding.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

I know that. But street tires are obviously better than dirt tires on the STREET.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

dude you can ORDER tires that'll fit on that rim.

a buell blast front tire, and a ninja 250 front tire will BOTH fit, also some early year CBR900 front tires.

cheng shin makes tires that'll fit aswell.

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

So in a 90/100-16 tire, only the 16 (the wheel size) is important? The other numbers (90/100) just need to come close?

Re: Cutting Knobbies off Dirt Tire

Also, can you put a front tire on your rear? And vice-versa?
