... a safe way to learn coasters...

thats something i wish id of asked before i learned them.

basically bring it to jsut behind perfect bp and pull in clutch and catch it with brake. be smooooooth on the brake. if you ninja bruce lee kick it youll flip over the front.

Re: coaster help

i would recommend not using the rev limiter when your learning either or until you can do them in your sleep.....trust me.

Re: coaster help

I'm not very good but If you hold the throttle steady and re-release the clutch It shouldnt slam down (or loop) and you can hold the wheelie.

Unless your rolling them far then I imagine you will have to give it more gas.

2nd gear is easier for me. 1st gear doesn't seem to be as forgiving with the brake. (just b/c I'm going faster)

Re: coaster help

think what your doing...when I was learning them I grew ***** to pull the clutch in but instant reaction was to let it go immediatelly...lucky that I was too hard on the brake in the beggining so I didn't loop any...the thing is to be really smoooth on the brake...and don't go in it just behind perfect bp cuz you will slam it down 100%, go a little further and bring it back to bp after you feel it floating...

i learned in first gear, its harder but a lot safer. and once you get em down in first, second gear is that much easier.

Re: coaster help

What worked for me (and may not have for others) was I cranked my idle WAY up, to like 6k and pulled a wheelie. You can feel the bike fall past bp with high idle, so once the bike started falling backwards and I had to catch it on the brake anyways I pulled in the clutch. I was already on the brake so it was basically just like coasting behind balance point. If you think of it, when you are doing slow idle wheelies and you are behind bp you are using no throttle, just brake to control it. Same thing in this case, so while you are controling the bike, pick up a little speed and pull in the clutch next time.

Re: coaster help

Don't rev the bike, that never ends good while learning to coast. I'm just learning no myself. I am trying to break the habit of only going to BP or slightly past it. For the first 10-20' of the coaster I have the clutch in and I'm not hitting the brake.
