my first wheelie

yo...ive been ridin for about a week... which doesnt seem like much but ive been ridin constantly and i dont wanna sound ****y but ive always been good at drivin and racing on fourwheelers, my old car, dirtbikes or whatever.... but anyways i think im ready to try to start wheelieng ( if thats a word)im gunna get it no matter how long it takes, but on average, or from ur own experience how long u think it takes to get good at it... i deffianetly got the heart and the want, and im kinda new to riding street bikes but ive been racing sumtin since i was like 11(i just turned 18 last week), so i guess my main question is just outta cureosity ( cause imma do it if it takes a day or years) but how long u think it takes to get decent... and any pointers aint gunna heart, even though i read like every wheelie thread on here

I learned how to wheelie on a Bicycle, After a 6 months i bought a Pit bike/stunt bike and on my first ride i did a 15ft long wheelie!
BICYCLES teach you HEAPS about wheelies.
If you dont have a bicycle get one and PRACTISE wheelies on that!

mmhm, my advice is to save up for a 50 or 125, and in the mean time **** around on a bicycle.

brake control is brake control. learn the concept on a bicycle, get yourself a 50 or 125 and carry that over to your foot, and then up to your big bike.

i had only ridden an F4i for about 30-40 minutes, and then they took that pic for my avatar, cuase i learned on my bicycle and dirtbike.

i HIGHLY suggest waiting on the big bike wheelies, get a 50 or 125 and learn to kill that first, and keep riding your big bike till you get really used to it (you may think you are now, but this **** takes time).

Re: my first wheelie

I went from racing motocross for 6yrs riding a cr250 and got a zx6 and it was weird for the first day just getting used to the feeling of a streetbike mainly having clip ons instead of dirt bars and I started learning to wheelie the first week and got sit downs quick were I could ride them out forever, but I was lucky to have someone teach me to clutch right from the start. Just take it slow and you will be alright alot of people learn on big bikes you don't have to start out on a 50 or small dirtbike. I can't stand dirtbike stuntin now I rode my friends crf150 alot for a couple weeks and it messed my throttle control all up, so I stay away from it now.

Re: my first wheelie

aight thanks everybody... i think im just gunna put a cage on it and try learnin on this bike, if i had money for a dirtbike ild get one but im broke as hell... and plus my bikes somewhat new, but its been dropped by the guy before me so its not perfect... ill let u know how it goes, but any suggestions on how high i should eventually clutch it at, i know like 40 billion people ask that question so if i just get ignored thats cool, but imma try to start lower and eventually get up there to where i wont gain to much speed... so thanks and ill let u know how it goes

Re: my first wheelie

i learned on a 2003 yamaha raptor 660r with a twist throttle and it was easy 2 get the hang of (since u got no worries with the wheelie bar and the 2 wheels in the back) u just gotta find the bp then its pretty simple from there now i have a 1995 zx6r and its real diff it scared me alot at first but after gettin a good feel 4 the bike 4 a month or so i started gettin the front end up by powerin it in 1st i rode up 2 about 8000 rpms got off the throttle and hit it and it came up no prob sittin down and i actually rode out my 1st wheelie the other day im still scared 2 shift but i reved out 1st on a wheelie for about 5 secs at the balance point, i found im a lot more comfortable standin up then i m sittin down hope this helps

Re: my first wheelie

wheelie? what's that?

I'd start with a fiddy. I know you said you have been on something with an engine most of your life, but have you actually sat down and practiced wheelies, and brake control and such? can you slow them down, or keep them at a constant speed somewhere below rev limiter?

A fiddy will teach you that.

Re: my first wheelie

i agree wit the fiddy statement...i havnt been on anything hard to wheelie than the fiddy i had last year...a stock fiddy will teach you alot about finding a balancing point and not using all power to bring it up...ps i rode a wheelie on our peninsula the first day i ever rode a streetbike

learn on a little bike, not a quad. those things take all the challenge of learning out.

Re: my first wheelie

All in all just take your time and do it at your own pace. People seem to get all caught up in what people think of their riding and tend to push themselves too far to fast. Since you have experience already you should pick it up faster than normal.
