Re: Just picked up my dream gun today.
cool, I caught your location after I posted.
curious as to what you chose to invest in planting if your weather has been shitty, and still wondering if you bow hunt, but...
didn't mean to get too off topic gents, carry on...

Re: Just picked up my dream gun today.
Okay, the "stopping power" Myth.
I hear you John. the Ol' .45 and 7,62mm NATO rounds
still have their aficionados.
Me as being an european, I'm a big fan of the 9mm Parabellum.
I'm happy you got that madman down,
but don't get me wrong: why do you rant on that lovely M9?
you had 15 nice rounds to shoot at that guy,
instead of 8,
and i'm assuming you placed all your shots correctly.
Head, Chest, you know.
Otherwhise, not the .45 either would have worked much better.
or the .40.
For what concerns tactical choices,
9mm wasn't ment to "achieve intel",
but to have more available firepower and a more controllable firearm.
Same idea that brought to the 5.56mm /ar15 duet:
more controllable and more friendly even for the less-trained soldier,
lighter to carry, and.. well there's a subtle reason indeed, too:
wounded soldiers are more expensive to take care of,
than fatalties.

Re: Just picked up my dream gun today.
partly true, but 9m the reason was yes it holds more rounds but it has less knock down power yes we went to a weapon that wasn't going to kill our enemies with one shot because we needed to gather intel from our enemies, and head a chest shots are impossible when you clearing a house and they are shooting at you chest yes largest mass, head no.

Re: Just picked up my dream gun today.
this is the reasoning we still have 5.56 it is cheap so we keep them, i dont know if anyone has ever seen what a 5.56 does to someone but it bounces around in someones body like a pin ball

Re: Just picked up my dream gun today.
John, it's quite difficult to tell "one shot death",
the problem is..
you're in the dirt, away from any rapid means of rescue,
and you hit someone in the abdomen...
he may be able to shoot back for a few minutes,
but that 9mm still has struck his abdominal arteria..
no intel from him.

Re: Just picked up my dream gun today.
i know what you are talking about, its hard to explain what i trying to get across, 10 yrs ago when i joined the marine corps we used 45's, but it had so much power it wasn't helping us accomplish what our goal was. and that was to know what our enemies were doing, its hard to explain combat, i know ive been in it twice, these insurgents nowadays the are using drugs and all sorts of things to keep themselves going to fight us, they are so hopped up on drugs they live for days and days after being shot, we have captured many insurgents that had lost hands and all sorts of body parts, they would rap kerlex around the areas of wounds this kerlex they would use after days would start to fuse with the tissue of the exposed area so it was nasty, we captured guys that had been shot 3 -4 times and still they tell us they would use adrenaline the drug to keep them up it was crazy, i have other stories if you want to know things.

Re: Just picked up my dream gun today.
It doesnt eject the bolt at all. It fires the shell and then leaves the cartridge in the chamber. I have cleaned this gun a 100 times over looking to clean out all the cosmolean, so I know its not that.
