Ak-47

Who makes the best and are there any types to stay away from. I am thinking about gettin one of these or a AR-15 308 model instead of the 223. Anybody have any suggestions let me know.

Thanks Justin

Re: Ak-47

Bro, if you can afford the .308, GET it. You will have NO regrets, look into a DPMS, or a armalite ar10.

However, if your set on a Ak, all are pretty good. Some of the better ones are the Yugo's though. If you can afford one of the 'american made' ones(vector, arsenal etc.), go that route, but they are a bit pricier. Why don't you want a .223? The 7.62x39 has more punch, but the .223 is way more accurate at longer distances. The .223 will still take a guy down (with a good shooter) at 600 yards, where as you have to be a DAMN good shot plus have a little luck to make 400 yards or so with the AK....

Re: Ak-47

Already building a .223 model A1 and I believe the lower is a military colt with a 1/12 turn. Little old but will be fun to shoot anywho and im thinking of putting on a Stagarms lower or a Superior Arms lower w/ DMS internals. Dont know which one yet though. If you or anyone have a lower for sale let me know though.

Also yeah the AK that im looking at is a Yugo I believe but Im not totally 100% sure if that was the one I was lookin at in the catalog thats mostly sells used but in great condition guns. Also what do you think the .308 is more comparable to, the AK or the .223 round?

Thanks Justin

They're all totally differant rounds. 7.62x39 (ak) is MOST comparable to .30-30. It has better impact and weight, but the .223 has a bit more powder behind it with a lighter bullet. Lighter is good for velocity and what not, but within the 300 yard range the 7.62x39 is usually the better choice, though not near as accurate, especially out of an AK. The .308 is head and shoulders above the AK round. With the ability to touch out to 1000 yards and still put a man down, it's in a completely differant class. The .223 usually uses a 50-65 grain bullet, the ak usually uses a 124 grain bullet, and the .308 is typically around 155 or so, but can be loaded up to 180 grain.

7.62x39 = ak
7.62x51 = .308
7.62x54 = pkm, dragunov, and mosin nagant

Re: Ak-47

I have a Pre-ban colt lower AR-15 with a Compass Lake Engineering Flat upper. If you are wanting a .308 I would buy a M-14/M1A. They are expensive. Although I don't think you'll go wrong with an AR-10. As a side note, you should reload your ammo. You'll save money and you can develop tack driving loads for all of your guns. I load everything I shoot and have never looked back. Factory ammo, even match ammo doesn't compare.

Yup, Polytech's are a really nice AK platform. Here's my Poly with some mods (black) MAK 90 7.62x39 and a Bulgrian AK 74. Plus my Bulgrian AK pistol in 7.62. Love AK's there just so damn simple...
