Ak-47
Re: Ak-47
hahah person otherthan a GRUNT!
POG.
look here Mr. intel go fix my laptop !
POG.dude im not sayin the .223 is ideal for going to the 1k range especially when you got .308 and the other shoulder thumpers. But your trien to tell me that its not accurate ast 600. Might want to look into match shooting. Ive seen targets with 5" groups at 1k out of a .223. Granted its out of a sick rifle with a load thats been finetuned, but to say its not accurate or capable at 1000 is flatout wrong, and to say its not good past 600 is WAY wrong. Like I said stop confusing shooting these shitty *** military weapons to weapons you can tweak.

guessin your not in the line company anymore
Re: Ak-47
The Snipers now in the Army use what we call the M24.....basically a loaded up Remington 700, heavy match grade barrel, 10x fixed zoom optics, trigger less lbs pull, etc.
The Snipers used the M21 until i think the end of the Vietnam War, which was like a nice loaded up M1 or M14...just liike the Remington 700 is now.
But actually the Army is in a new phase, we're actually slowly doing away with all M24's and sticking just to the Barrett 50, instead of carrying both. Lets face it, the Barrett is heavy as **** like 25lbs before ammunition, but it can do all and more the M24 could
Re: Ak-47
I'm not saying there aren't M21's around, but pretty rare. Same thing will happen with the M24. The Marines will prob follow suit with doing away with the M40, but due to having less finances, everything usually sticks around in the Marines a bit longer.
Re: Ak-47
Since I didnt make it to a line unit but still get to be an 03 I like to call myself grunt lite
We're the smart grunts haha. They only pull them from school occasionally. For example, I was one of 4 in our class to go. We did get a lot of 0351s from school though. Others are grunts on their second enlistment, or from Security forces. It'll be my 3rd MOS so its not bad. Im hopin to get a 2nd pump in with intel and then go SF, scout sniper, or just straight up line unit.As far as m14s, we still use them occasionally for designated marksmen. We have other 308 variants like the mk 11/sr25. Youll still see the m14 every now and then though.

Re: Ak-47
i'd just buy a used Bushmaster or something........Bushmaster is a great brand, and you could find a very nice unscratched one for like 7-8 hundred prob with some extra ammo or some stuff.
Re: Ak-47
an AK is an AK.....just how refined you want it....my "cheap" Romanian AK can hit headshots out to 100 yards and center mass out to maybe 175 yards. The sights on the AK's and the movement of the barrel from the violent action of the gas piston with each shot make the AK's accuracy lacking. Watch the internet clip of AK v. M16 and you can actually see the barrel flex with each shot!
AR platform is inherently more accurate, even when chambered for 7.62x39, or 9mm.....the gas impingement system has no violent action from a gas piston since there isnt one. On the negative side, the gas impingement system is a "***** where it eats" system blowing gas back into the receiver to move the bolt back. Follow up shots are always more accurate with AR type rifles since the recoil buffer and spring are perfectly in line with your shoulder, reducing muzzle rise.
When comparing the rounds.....we have alot of GI's coming home with injuries from 7.62x39 rounds, and we KILL alot of people with the 5.56x45 round. The 7.62 round makes a nice THUD and knocks stuff down (I shot a deer FIVE times, he dropped each time, but still was able to run off...all shots were center mass at 75 yards with iron sights). The 5.56 round doesnt make a thud, but it does "yaw" on impact and often leaves more of a knife-like wound when entering, and may not exit until it has bounced around and exited in a completely unexpected location. Many people shot with the 5.56 round were hit mid chest and have exit wounds near the posterior hip.
Both guns and both rounds have their upsides and downsides.....in my opinion....own both! lol
I have a Romanian AK and a couple thousands rounds of 7.62 ammo, on the other side of the safe is my M4 with a couple thousand rounds of 5.56.....and I'm also mid-build on a 24" barreled AR for long range shooting.
