It's a damn fourwheeler just give it gas and ride the brakes! It's not going to hurt you

Yeah I read that the other night.

Basicly doing a wheelie is hard for me for some reason. I have never been able to do it on anything except a fiddy (and not super long ones on those).

Should I pop the clutch from a slow roll in first or second? I have heard both. First is kinda torquey and jerks the **** out of ya with the slightest throttle.

Ive seen lots of vids of people doing it, just never can hear the motor to know **** (how high they are reving it, when they are poping the clutch. THe little details that become natural after a while)... just basicly a trial and error kinda thing.

Quads are eisier than 50's to wheelie. It's all in yo' Head foo. Man don't start mx riding it will kill you. I will post a video for you of just engine noise...please hold a minute while I make it.

definately from a slow slow roll. from a dead stop, not knowing how to wheelie and how much clutch vs. throttle your more than likely gonna stall on your way up. so do it from a slow roll

True and usually going a little faster, but they don't tip side to side so you only need half your balance

Well I got my **** on and been playing around.... from a slow roll in first gear i pop it up fine. I mean way up... lol. The balence point on these things from that slow of a roll (or any speed in first gear) is way way up (way close to touching the grab bar IMHO).

I have no brake control so this is one helluva chore. On top of that i rode mx so my throttle control with this thumb thing is choppy choppy. So once second im draggin the bar and the next the front tires are on a one way ticket to the ground hard.. lol...

Im sure it will take days... weeks... possibly months to get this... but hey... I will eventully get it. Now when you guys pop it up there is no slippage right? You jsut rev and pop the clutch and have it come up? And it seems a lot of the time I got to motor it a lil further even more... so im assuming I should give it a few more R's when poping the clutch to get it where it needs to be?

And damn, this is a work out.. lol... props to you guys for this ****! :YEAH

Re: Just bought a YFZ450... questions...

Well I been playing on it and got a nice hand brake rigged up. So before I had that rigged up I was trying the one foot on the rear bar thing and I would always scrape the rear bar. Getting better though.

Now that I got a hand brake on I can put both feet on the back and wheelie for a couple blocks. The handbrake helps sooo much. Its nice to be able to adjust a little with the brake.

Still learning the clutching it up. Right now i start from a slow roll in first and just power it up (takes about a foot and a half to have it up.. lol).

I can't do a BP wheelie on my feet or *** yet. In fact I can't even get myself to bring it to the BP when standing up and on my *** it feels like I'll never get them down.

More tips guys? lol... so far you have been a ton of help...

Re: Just bought a YFZ450... questions...

yes...I have tips.... This is a good thread, and I think you are doing good dragit
I think you should drop the handbrake....(at least for this learning curve you're gonna be in for a few weeks or months ) just my
Go back to learning your footbrake....it seems hard, but it will just happen one day... you will pick it up....just like you've been picking up BP ...also keep practicing your sit downs.... It just takes a shitload of launches I'd say after 500 to 1000 You'll be comfortable launching it in first or second....Stopped or rolling slowly..it wont matter... I cannot stress enough how it is all about determination and practice. I used to think some of the exact same stuff you're thinkin'.... Stuff i thought for sure would take months to learn....Sometimes just comes to you after 3 or 4 days of solid practice....and Then You dont want to quit ....but your hands and legs are wore the **** out ! rest up for tomorrow :YEAH Keep up the good work
Something else to look fwd to.....the better you get....the less you use your hands vigorously...and you are relaxed way more of the time...and therefor your hands last way longer . later

Clever way of making REAL use of that E-brake huh?

Works well.. There is enough brake in it to keep from going backwards with a fair amount weight falling back. But its not enough when rolling slow (low-mid first gear) and at 12 o'clock to bring the bike back forwards... maybe with more speed but I haven't left first gear yet.. lol.

BTW... total cost comes to $20.99 :YEAH

my thoughts exactly... gearing it will get you some lower speed wheelies i guess... and once youve been over the fear will leave haha you just have to get used to it i guess... personally with my raptor i hate trying to wheelie in 1st (i slap grab bar all the time in 1st :YEAH ) and somtimes 2nd cause its to damn jumpy and its just so much smoother at higher speeds and gears.. just practice and it will all get easy.

Re: Just bought a YFZ450... questions...

Well I wrecked it again.. lol...

Long story short, Following a friend and rode of a washout that we didn't know was there and left front tire caught the side of the wash out. Bent the pis out of the Tie rod. Hopefully that is it though.

Anyone know how much a factory tie rod is?

I just got my check from last week ($1000 woo hoo) and was thinking of buying a sweet camera. So maybe vids up soon.

go on www.yfzcentral to buy that tie rod. you can buy a used one off someone on there because almost 80% of those guys race/jump. so they should have swaped theirs out. i'd def. check out that site. thats how i got my steering stem after i wrecked.
