wr250x vs drz400sm..... leaning torwards the WR, how are you setting up your wr250x

im looking to buy a wr250x, but i'm a little worried of it being under powered (gearing change can fix that, with the loss of a little top end). the only other bike that i might consider is a drz400sm, but i hear there not as good for stunting. the used drz is cheaper than the wr, but i dont want to cheap out if the wr is really that much better. just checking in to see your thoughts on the pro's and con's of the 2 (street, stunt, and possibly track). I will be doing more lot stunting and street. I’ve heard a few people say the wr250x is like a big fiddy you can rock on the street. Sounds sick!!!

ive done some reserch and so far im pretty set on the wr250x just wanted to get your opinions on the 2 bikes since theres guys stunting both.
I know some of the stock similarities………. Both will be a ton of fun!!!!!! low maintnace, can break 90 mph stock, similar size and height,

I know the ovious differences………………. One big one for me is that FT makes a nice dual caliper bracket for the wr and not the dzr (which will be my first mod)
Wr250x - is 250cc (less power), 6 speed trans, newer technology, fuel injected, lighter weight by about 25+ lbs, needs premium gas, no tach, less vibration at higher speeds, better throttle response
Drz400sm - an extra 150cc (more power), 5 speed (1 less gear), older technology (but has proven well for many years), cardbed, a little heavier, reg gas,

as for the WR250X........
Im not sure if I want to buy a stock one or one with a pipe, pc, and other mods already on it……….
just interested in how your all setting them up and what parts your replacing or modifing.………. other than gearing, HB, idle cable and bars. Are you guys keeping everything else stock or are you are you adding performance mods.
Whats mods do you guys have done to it?
What gearing for stunting are you guys using and what kind of top speed are you getting?

thanks for the input

Im lookign at getting one in the next 6 months,

I have always been a yamaha man with dirtbikes but damn is the wr ugly so im leaning towards the drz or the kawi but i dont like the fact that they're carb'd because of the float just draining while im on 1 wheel.

So any input would help me aswell.

And will the fram the DRZ has accept a rmz450 motor and the same with the kawi and yammie (with the dirt motor respectivly)

Re: wr250x vs drz400sm..... leaning torwards the WR, how are you setting up your wr25

i might be picking up an 08 wr250x tomorrow (100% bone stock, nice and clean, 2k miles).

the first mods are going to be................ asap
F.T. dual caliper handbrake set up with a 08 R1 radial master cylinder
air box mod, remove spark arrester, idle cable, & clean up tail
(anyone have a write up or can tell me how they did to make the job quicker and easier)
t-rex frame, front & rear axel sliders
(how well do these help protect when stunting, or are ther better options)

also in sometime in the future i might want......
pc, exhaust, & filter
45t rear (and maybe.... 12 in the front) ( just dont want to loose TOO much top end)
new bars..... (not sure which ones)
stunt pegs
hand gaurds

if anyone has deatils, recomendation, help or ideas........... it would be greatly appreciated thanks guys

WR all the way.....Everybody and their momma has a Suzuki (aka Slozuki). Plus the WR will take a hell of alot more abuse than a slozuki ever thought about.........Mine is a street legal YZ450 and i guess u can say i dont ride my minty 03 636 anymore....=-)

2009 drz in white looks sick...and i love that yz450 but **** is too hard to get legalized.

I just like the DRZ it looks mroe like a dirtbike than the wr and the exhaust on the wr is fugly....

Throw a different headlight and a yoshi dual can pipe and your good to go as far as looks.

Then put another 1000 in it for a new carb and big bor kit and youve got a bike that reacts like a 450 dirtbike and looks a lot better than a lot of **** on the street

Just my though...

And generally im a yammie/honda fan but just this case its gotta be suzuki

Re: wr250x vs drz400sm..... leaning torwards the WR, how are you setting up your wr25

i picked it up this past saturday!!!! already scraped the plate
the bike is awesome, im have way too much fun on this thing!!!!!!!

i wanted to remove the ugly stock tail light and plate hanger and get a nicer undertail kit, but refused to take it off until it gets scraped!!!!

and gearing.............. you guys who are running larger gearing, how many teth and hows it affecting your top speed, and for the guys going 8, 10, or more up are you doing all you slow stuff in 1st or 2nd. im -1 +12 on my 636 and do most all my lot stuff in 1st. but it also seems to have a longer first gear than this.

also any help with the questions below would be helpful.

I'm -1 in the front.
Idle Mod.
Everything else is stock, perfect for the lot, and I still hit 90mph on the highway.
