The Venom600 Bike search thread
Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
Thanks man. He said the frame is from the previous owner and thats why theres no vin, he doesnt know why nor has a title. If the frame is switched, I can get a title for the bike, right? He also said a lot of parts on the bike were switched and it cant be made street legal, but the frame should be the only problem. Wiring cant be too hard, is it?
Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
ehhh, need a frame with a vin to pass inspection. Posting was deleted by the seller...my guess was a stolen bike that was chopped and vin removed. Be careful with that one....if it has no title, make sure it has a vin and run the vin with the police. Just call the police and have them meet you where the bike is. If the guy is legit, he won't have an issue with it. With a bill of sale you can post a title bond on it and get a title. That is what I did with my 600rr. Cost $100 for the title bond. Also you can run vins on carfax. You can get like 30 days unlimited for like $30 or something like that.

If you buy a frame make sure you get a title with it. Its also illegal to sell a title without a frame.
Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
One thing I would caution is that just because the VIN is gone does not mean that it can no longer be identified as the stolen bike. When I was a cop, we found quite a few bikes that the owner was able to identify that had missing vin. Markings, modifications, etc all go to being able to identify it. Just trying to throw some caution in here...also there is probably a reason the guy has deleted the post. Either he has sold it or it was a hot bike that he just wanted to unload on some sucker quickly. As Lorne said, not sure what he took off from the wiring to make it non street legal. That sounds kind of funny to me as well. Just don't want you to get screwed by purchasing something and then later get arrested for it....and yes, you can get arrested for possession of stolen property even if you legitimately bought it from someone else.
Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
Yeah I know, I'll be careful. All the wiring is intact. He said he bought the bike as a track bike with no vin. If I just switch the frame, it should be good, right? I can get a title and everything for it. Im not sure about what he meant about it being street legal but im going to look at it today and I wont buy it if anythings odd about it. Im not sure why the posting is down but he still has the bike because he emailed me yesterday afternoon about coming to look at it.
Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
I went to look at it and I didnt see that the vin was ground off, I just didnt see a vin. It needs a battery, tires, and lights as far as I could tell. Speedometer and everything else is still intact and working. the fairings are in rough shape. If it is legit and wasnt stolen, all I would have to do is get a frame with a clean title, right? Would anyone that knows enough about mechanics be willing to go with me to check the bike out and see if theres anything wrong with it? I'll pay for gas and what not.
One other question, what was the first year of the f4i? The guy says this one is a 99 but I didnt think came out until 01. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/mcy/726443766.html is this an f4?

Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
oh ok if the vin #'s werent ground off then you should be fine, just be sure to get a bill of sale.
That might be an f4, the frame looks silver. F4 frames were silver, 01-03 f4i frames were black, and I think the newer 04-07 f4i frames were silver again. You could also tell by the gauges, if it has an electronic speedo then its f4i, if not then its f4.
heres a pic of an f4 gauge

and heres an f4i gauge

Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
It had the same gauges as an f4. D is going to try to come with me to look at it. I just dont want to have to put too much into just to get it legal. What I have so far like I said is a frame, tires, battery, and lights. All the extras that come with it aren't for the $1700, thats extra. He said he would throw in rain tires too but are those any good for the road?
Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
If I only had a little bit more money...damn.
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/mcy/740402314.html
Already set up for stunts but a little rough. I just have to keep looking, though.
If I found an f4 in good condition for cheap, is that a bad idea, just because its an f4. It will be primarily for the street but decent f4i's are hard to find.

Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
Lorne, whats up with the bikes you were talking about in the first post? I have more money now so the r6 you were describing is in my price range. I want an f4i if possible, but am interested in f4s or other bikes.
Re: The Venom600 Bike search thread
I'll check on it when I get back in town. He has an R6 clean title almost ready to ride out, just needed to put on the rest of the farings. CBR 600RRs will be going for 5-6k. Not sure about what else he has picked up yet.
I'm pretty sure he sold the other R6 that was in there.
