it could be all wheel drive all the time with the center diff in the transfer case being used for front to back and the one on the left output shaft being used for left to right or maybe the center one can be used to shift from 4wd to 2wd

no it's not you just cant see where the rear drive shaft slides into the transfer case , the side of the transfer case that has the three shafts sticking out goes towards the front of the truck , the center one is where the transmission goes and the two outer ones are where the two front drive shafts go

+1 that's what I am seeing too. I don't think this one has a PTO.

Mike, left is front, Right is rear and the thing hooked up to the middle is the transmission.

well ******* ay why the hell didnt you see that sooner with that in mind thats not really that strange of a set up considering alot of early ifs systems sucked a big dick and this would likely have been alot stronger than what was available at the time

Do you think that middle one disengages the gear from the shaft so the front shafts aren't spun and the upper one disconnects front right from front left? I don't see how they would work but if they can disengage like that, it would work.

im simplifying this but just imagine the center shaft that drives every thing being able to spin the larger gear or not , like a planetary system , the shaft would always drive the rear but only drive the front if the planetary was engaged causing the big gear to spin
