I taught myself R14 at my co-op first summer out of highschool. Got good enough to pass the test out exam for intro to CAD. They gave us 3 hours for the test, it took me about 45 minutes and 15 minutes of that was setting up the buttons where I was used to them.
Later on I took a 3d modeling class and a finite element analysis class both in Ideas. Ideas is pretty much the same as Catiav5, you just need to know where the buttons are and some stuff is named differently.

I bought some compact flourecents yesterday for the 2 desk lamps in my front room. I went with "natual sunlight" bulbs that claimed a equivelent light output of a 60 watt bulb.
1.The lumen output sucked.
2. They were so blue they were nearly blacklights.
3. The color temperature was no where on the box.
I'm returning them for the highest watt equivelent in the "warm" box.

I learned a little bit of 14 at my job in 99. I'm basically self taught as the college class was a joke. It was more about adding dimensions and ****. Half the class was drafting by hand and half with R12. I'm teaching myself 3d right now. I'm building an electric guitar for something to do. I've got access to a CNC Router, but nobody knows how to use it. I've pretty much got the body built in cad but I can only work on it at home. I don't have much free time there. Once it's built I get to try to figure out the nesting program for the CNC. Hopefully it can work from an autocad model. If not, I"ll have my buddy convert it to g-code. That should work.
