pine trees take up so much water it's ridiculous.

It's tough to get grass to grow under them because the trees steal so much water.

But if you want to try and save it you fertilize trees the same way you do shrubs. You need to inject fert into the soil under the drip line. That's where the roots reach and feed.

To inject it you can just use a pipe, hammer it down 2', pull it and dump some fert down......all around the tree.
