They have power over their minions. That's what it boils down to. They have no reason to have a say in what rights are afforded to people.

it becomes a tangled web discussing separation of church and state - it's way more than a can of worms ... on one hand our nation was founded on a pretty strong religious base (religion was huge that long ago, regardless of where you were) but on the other hand it's not suppose to affect gov't at all ... but bottom line is it does, it's in the news all the time - from religious leaders stating they back a certain political figure to the debate of saying the word god in the pledge

you have a very scewed ideal of religion.....

It sounds like you are mostly talking about the catholics though and only the very negative aspects......all christians are not catholic....I am protestant......I disagree strongly with many views of the catholic church as well....but the message is still a good one.....

Faith does not give you the right to be a bigot. Do you believe people who don't believe in god should be able to get married? What about people who are of a different religion?

see you're changing the nature of this conversation......I'm not discussing religion per se......I'm saying people who are religious consider marriage to be a religious union.....as long as you are going to let the people vote on this issue the word marriage and what it means to religious people will have an impact.....so call it a civil union and make it the exact same as marriage....

Not at all. Faith is a wonderful thing. I wish I had it. I'm too scientifically oriented to believe. Religion is a way for an entity to control people and take their money. There are stories of corruption in all forms of religion. Sure they also do good things. I'm not saying all religious people are bad. I'm saying as a whole religions are oppressive and elitist.

I understand and mostly agree with what he's saying I'm just trying to explain why it'll be an issue as long as it's left up to a vote by the people......
