AMA Motorcycle Fans Invited to Two-Wheel Thunder
at Infineon Raceway, March 17
WHAT:
Infineon Raceway will host Two-Wheel Thunder on Friday, March 17, the third promotional event of Ignition Tour 2006. The promotions are designed to get fans revved up for the 2006 Big O Tires Racing Season in the Sonoma Valley.
Two-Wheel Thunder will feature the fastest motorcycle road-racers in the country testing Infineon Raceway’s world-famous road course. Fans will be admitted FREE to watch the testing, as well as participate in many other activities during the day (see below). The test session is held in advance of the Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown, presented by Supercuts, at Infineon Raceway May 19-21.
WHEN/WHERE:
Friday, March 17, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (Pacific), Infineon Raceway, Highways 37 and 121, Sonoma, Calif. (800-870-RACE, www.infineonraceway.com). The event is FREE to the public.
RIDERS:
Top AMA Superbike riders are expected to attend the test session, including riders from Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Ducati, as well as privateer teams.
FAN ELEMENTS:
· Supermoto demonstration: This year’s Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown in May will feature Supermoto USA at Turn 7. The motorcycle racing is a blend of pavement riding (80-percent) and dirt riding (20-percent). Riders will be on-hand on March 17 for a demonstration at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
· Street Freestyle: The May weekend will also feature Street Freestyle on the island in Turn10. This will mark the first-ever Street Freestyle event on the West Coast as riders perform a variety of tricks their 400- and- 500-pound street bikes. Riders will be on-hand on March 17 for a demonstration at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
· Fan Forum & Autograph Session: Select AMA riders will participate in a Fan Forum & Autograph Session during the lunch break on March 17.
· Green Bead-Mania: In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, all fans will be greeted with green beads when they arrive at the raceway.
· Wall of Fame Announcement: Infineon Raceway officials will make a formal announcement regarding which AMA riders will be inducted into the raceway’s Wall of Fame for 2006. This will take place in the Winner’s Circle at the lunch break (12:15 p.m.). Rider(s) will be enshrined in May.
MEDIA:
Top AMA riders will be available in an informal setting in the paddock during the lunch break (12:15-1 p.m.), and select riders will be brought to the Winner’s Circle for group and one-on-one interviews. If you have a request for a specific rider, please let us know.
SPECIAL TICKET OFFER:
All race fans who purchase a ticket in-person at Two-Wheel Thunder for any major event on the 2006 Infineon Raceway calendar will receive a limited-edition Ignition Tour 2006 cap. The first 50 fans to purchase a ticket will also receive a FREE subscription to Cycle News magazine.
