I called in sick today. First time since I started this job 3 months ago...

And my boss leaves me a voicemail acting all cool, and then drops a classic "I'll just need to see a doctor's note from you on Monday."

I'm thinking about setting a note on his desk that says "Michael was home sick from school today. --Mikey's mom"

Honestly. Who the f*ck does he think he's talking to? I'm 28 f*cking years old. There will be no note from me, my mom or a doctor. Conversation will go as follows. "Jerry, I called in sick on Friday because I did not feel well. I have sick time, I used it. I did not go to the doctor. Because I never go to the doctor. When I'm sick, I lay in bed and watch movies all day. I don't have health insurance yet, and I'm not paying a doctor to tell me 'Yep, you've got a headache and a bit of a fever. Go lay in bed for the day.'"

Just tell him you were so sick you couldn't see...you couldn't see coming in to work! BTW, for a small Paypal donation, I can make some excellent doctor's notes...

 

we do the same thing at work to people we want to fire, knowing that they don't have a doctor's note. Kinda shitty, but it weeds out that bad people, not that this is your case!

To the best of my knowledge...you have to be out of work for 3 days before they can require a doctors note from you. Michigan is an at will state so they can fire you for no good reason but as far as HR policy goes it's actually against the law to use that as an excuse to let you go...not that they plan to do so but just to let you know...if it makes you feel any better listen to this...I just started a new job as well. Because I started half way through the year I have 9 vacation days and we have to use them all up before Dec or they're gone...so I tell my boss that I'm moving in July and need that Friday off to get my stuff packed and moved....so she says well can you come in this Sunday????? I'm like NO!!! BUT I can use a ****ing vacation day!!! I'm not sure what she's trying to pull but if I have to work a weekend everytime I want to take any paid time off we're gonna have some serious problems! Not sure bout the rest of you guys but I'm about ready to retire

I need a doc's note for the tint I am about to get on my car.

 

I've held a job since I was 14, 9 long years. And I pride myself with having never called in sick. It really got me no where but I don't care. Damn my good health.

Actually, that's a lie. I took my weeks's paid vacation from Advance Auto Parts and on the day I was sceduled to com back to work, I called in with anthrax and never went back cuz I hated that job so much. HAha ****ers

 

Your boss sucks... sorry to hear about your boss giving you ****... tell him that unless he was willing to pay for the office/emergancy room visit that you couldn't afford it and that you need a raise...

 

Use the migraine excuse.. Light sensitivity.. I used it (Although I really do get severe migraines).. I took my note with me to court about a month ago.. They dismissed my 2 tickets, but I have to fill out some paperwork with secretary of state and my doctor to put a restriction on my license.. The judge told me that after I do that, i have to always drive a car with tint. If I dont and get pulled over, then I can get a ticket.. I still havent done the forms, but the note saved me about $220 in tickets... I was almost a smart *** and asked if i needed to always wear tinted shields on my helmet, but figured i would keep my mouth shut..

Update: I got a talking to today. I called HR, and they said that he has the right to request a note, but were surprised that he did. HR did contact my boss, and I think... for right now, we're at the "understanding" that I will provide a note from now on when I'm sick....

I have an interview on Friday...
