Title questions/legal issues
RE; YOUR TITLE QUESTION
I am a licensed salvage dealer in the state of Michigan, the only thing you can do to get the title on that bike here is file for it with a TR-52. In the state of michigan they will send out a notice to the last registered owner who will have 20 days to claim his property. If he does not the police will then issue you a TR-52 and you can take that to SOS and get a clean clear title. The police in your area will have to do that for you if the bike is in your possesion. Bottom line -- don't give the guy any money until you have th paperwork back from the police syaing you are the owner. Otherwise the guy who actually owns the bike currently can claim it for free. Once the 20 days is up though, if he does not show you will have the bike for free. I have done over 50 bikes and watercraft this way. But i do not pay until the title work comes back, and you have to have a law enforcement office willing to work with you. I use the state police out here. If you buy the bike without a title you are buying it HOT from somebody that legally can not sell it. That is why I never pay until the TR-52's come back. GOOD LUCK if you decide to do it.
So if I get this TR-52 back, I can go to the SOS and get a title without having the actual vehicle, without a bill of sale, without ANYTHING??
Or do I get the TR-52, THEN go get the bike and a bill of sale, and THEN get a title from the SOS?
Thanks for your info!

Basically you need the bike in your possesion. Then you have your local law enforcment come out and do the abandon vehicle paperwork. They send out a notice to the last registered owner. They have 20 days to claim the property. If they do not, then the police will issue you a TR-52, that you can take to the SOS and get it changed into a clear title. Your local law enforcement has to be willing to do this for you. It is how all the tow yards get rid of there abandon vehicles. Ask a local tow yard who does theirs and they should be able to point you in the right direction.
