Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

How many of you believe we should change our helmet law to include riders of all age?

This is based on the current "trend" to ride without helmets, as seen at Calhoun and SA.

Thoughts?

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

even though I wear my lid 95% of the time I still thnk we should have the choice to decide if we want to wear a helmet or not. There are them days where that thing just gets way to hot and it has to come off for a bit.

What is that heck is with Age Requirements + Medical Insurance in the 3 states?? If your under 21 in TX and FL you have to not only wear a lid but have medical insurance?? I am well past 21 but I sure as heck couldnt afford medical insurance when I was 20 years old and my job at the time didnt offer it. I was having enough problems paying the insuance on my 2 cars and my brand new gixxxer back then and be able to live. No way I would have been able to pay for med ins on my own just to ride my bike legaly. That law sux!

Yo Hippie,

I lived in Fort Lauderdale, FL for 1 year, when they say "Age Requirement + Insurance"; they mean liability insurance on your bike because that covers some medical. So if you don't wear you're helmet, you can be stopped and asked for your bike insurance. It was the same every year I have gone to Daytona for Bike Week.

I have posted in the California Forum to have a few of them come in here and tell us what they thought when California went to a mandatory helmet law. Hopefully this will put this issue into perspective.

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

i would like to see everyone wear there helmets. but it should be there choice.
i have been riding without one this year(i know its stupid) but if i had a helmet right now i would always wear it. no questions asked.
i dont feel that people should be forced to wear one. stunters or the average rider its up to you !
i feel that a helmet law is as bad as the seatbelt law. it should be up to each person. i never wear a seatbelt. and thats my choice. and its my choice to get ticketed for it to

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

i think it should be manditory. those 19 states made it for a reason. and for all you complaining about a full face gettin hot, thats some bs if ive ever heard any. all you have to do is put your shield up. i know alot of people dont agree with that but where i live (MA) its been reguired for as long as i can remember. i guess its just becuase ive always wore a full face so it doesnt bother me. ive also hit my head a few times and am sure glad i had one on. hell, ive gone up and down the street a few time like after i change something just to make sure its all set and i akward as hell not having one on. and here you have to have any vehical insured to even have it registered.

Thanks for a fresh perspective!!! I think its very valuable to hear from riders in states that already have a mandatory helmet law. Thats why I asked several states to come into the Minnesota Forum so that we can have a balanced discussion.

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

I don't care, I wear mine. Its a split decision for me. I don't know what side to take. I do know that half the people I run into that don't wear em are beginner riders. They probably feel too cool to wear em. But on the other hand sometimes its nice to feel the breeze in your face. I hate seeing people without them on the freeway. I think freeways should be mandatory for sure.

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

they have a lid law here when you have your permit, why didn't they keep it the same. only time i didn't wear my lid was if it was gonna be a quick ride somewhere close. and now that i think about it, that was 2-3 years ago. i've always worn my lid due to double wheelies or stoppies with my hubbie. but everyone should have their own choice.

a lot of things are starting to get government controlled, and i'm not liking it. land of the free, starting to forget what that is anymore. but that's just my on the deal.

be safe :YEAH

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

I don't think the government should be able to make an adult wear a helmet. Plain and simple.

I don't always wear mine. That's my choice. I ride how I ride, and enjoy what it is I do on my bike, helmet or no helmet.

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

I feel it should be up to the rider to decided if they're going to wear a helmet or not. I'm happy it's that way in Minnesota.
