Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

the way i see it is that its your choice...the passenger on the other should have to wear one because their safety is ultimately in the riders hands..if you choose to not wear a lid its only going to effect you and only you..in rhode island it is only mandatory for passenger and in massachusetts both must wear..just my 2 cents...

while i feel that it should be your choice, it's stupid not to. kinda like a seatbelt, although there is a seatbelt law now.

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

Screw choices, wear the damn helmet wheather u like it or not. i can almost gaurantee you that if it wasnt for my helmet i probably woulda been a goner a while ago. on a couple different occasions. "yeah i dont need a helmet cuz im only going down to the store real quick" u think the person thats gonna cut u off or pull out in front of you is thinking twice about wheather or not u got gear on. NOPE

This is based on the current "trend" to ride without helmets, as seen at Calhoun and SA.

Thoughts?

I think we should have a mandatory helmet law!

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

Now, I'd like you all to ponder this. Of the states with the most licensed riders, how many of those states require riders of all ages to wear a helmet?

Here's the math:

State Total Licensed Riders
------ ---------------
1)CA 904,600(helmet law for all ages)
2)PA 748,315
3)TX 668,106
4)OH 634,500
5)IL 553,925
6)NY 535,513(helmet law for all ages)
7)FL 505,943
8)MI 457,001(helmet law for all ages)
9)WI 357,673
10)MN 317,421

Don't you think this should be more prevalent in states with more riders, than states with less riders?

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

I live in cali. There are many times when I'm gonna be going to the grocery store when I dont want to wear a helmet, but I put one on anyways. I'm sure there would be a lot of times when I wouldnt wear a helmet if there wasnt a law saying that I have to wear one.

I guess I'm kinda glad that there is a helmet law here though, because I know that I probably wouldnt make the smartest choice all of the time. Then again I kinda wish I could go for a ride occasionaly w/o having to wear a helmet. I have mixed feelings about the whole situation. For me not getting a ticket is the motivation to wear a helmet sometimes.

I dont give a flying fu(k what people want to expose their heads to. As the saying goes "No brains, no headaches." If you want to ride without a helmet that is your buisness. I value my mind and opinion, plus I dont want my mommy changing my depends when I **** myself in a comatose state.

no matter how much experience a rider has, they can still go down. but it should be the riders choice if they want to wear a lid or not. i wear mine 100 percent of the time and i have no problem with it, if it is going to increase my chances of living through crash, then i will wear it until i stop riding.

obviously but not my point.... people just starting out tend to take risks, and have less experience in correcting etc.. therefore more likely to fall.

I like the option. I don't think I ever rode with out my helmet one time when I lived in Arizona, but it's nice having that feeling of "freedom" knowing I have a choice.

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

honestly, i like the helmet law, cuz even if i didn't want to wear the helmet i'd have to. it dun take much of a blow to the head to kill you or put you in a coma or veg state. i live like 10 min from RI i only had the helm off once and didn;t like it. i've only stunted once for 30 min without a helmet then put it back on. but its also up to the rider i agree with that but i'll always ride with one now. hit my head a few times once was a car, another was a stupid fall and if i didn;t have it on i prolly would be ****ed for sure. anyone who is willing to ride without it, brave.

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

Next time you see someone whos now mentally retarded, a barley more then a vegetable.

Ruined his familys life, his own life, is now a dud that his parents spend thousands on a month taking care of him..

Just relize, do you want to do that to your family/friends?

You guys who just think "I should be able to not wear it, its only gonna affect me if I crash"

think again, I bet 99 times out of 100 it will affect your family, your friends, and other people WAY more then you think.

My friend was in just a car wreck, he hit his head though. It put him in a coma for 2 weeks. After that he had to go to therapy, it costs $1000 a day, he was there for a little over 4 months...

His parents had to pull him out of therapy cause they coulden't pay for it. Hes now in out patient. His parents are POOR not and cannot do anything with there life. Both of his little brothers have no chance of going to college unless they get a scholership or somthing..

Now I know its only a car wreck, but i'v seen the same **** happen to people riding a BICYCLE! Not even a crotch ROCKET that does 140+ mph with ease...

So just think before you go ride without your lid, relize, that just sitting at a stop light and tipping your bike over and hitting your head on the ground can and probably will make you mentally retarded if not dead.

btw, I ride my fiddy with a lid. Even in the dirt.

Im for them.

It keeps the most the people who don't wanna wear them, wearing them.

Theres a good chance I woulden't be here today if I didn't wear my helmet in my crash. And all I was doing was going the speed limit in my lane on my fzr600.

Re: Full Helmet Law in Minnesota...

ok i konw this forum hasnt been wrote in in months but i want ot give my ... First off i dont like the law and i think it sucks for this fact. I dont know about you but i wear my helmet every time i get on my bike no matter how far i go or dont go... hell its so bad that when i move it in my garage i put it on out of habbit. I dont think the are hott to wear i wear mine when its 95 out all summer long. I live in Ohio where you dont have to wear one if you dont want to but most of my friends do everytime even tho some dont but like i said its a "choice" I spent 5 years of my life in the ARMY defending this country and what it stands for and its FREEDOM. I have put my *** on the line for this country so you, me and everyone else can live here and be free to do what we want to do. I look at it this way. Everyone that can ride a bike knows what it can do and what happens to people when they wreck and if they want to be dumb ....LET THEM... like i said ITS A FREE COUNTRY and yes it does effect the people around them like there parents and friends and what not but that is them and there life and there family. THat is what is wrong with our country today... we try to play "big brother" i mean **** no mater if everyone wears a lid or not....people are gonna die and people will live you cant stop that its life! I think everyone should worry about them self and there family and there friends and stop pushing there views on other people we dont need more laws we hae to many as it is. This country dont like comunist or dictatorships but what is it becomming? who do you think countrys like that start out? Just like we are doing now.... i mean we have people that get paid to make new laws how many laws will we have in 20 years? F-ing to many **** if you want to be dumb ...be dumb... i meanits you life and your choice.... Im all for wearing helmets all the time but it is a personal choice not one that should be made a law. Look at it this way would you really want someone comming to your house and telling you how to live? what to eat? how to dress? what to say? HELL no you wouldnt... so how do you think its right to sit here and tell people they "HAVE" to wear a helmet? IT not right and its not what living in a FREE country is all about.
