Is this ok to do if the bike is all stock? and it looks like you have a hose or 2 there and some wire hangin off it. whats up with that? do you just plug the hose and let the wire hang or what? would it even be worth it if i don't have a PC III or aftermarket pipes? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Same on bikes and cars - when you pull off your EGR valve it changes the chemical properties of the air in the cylinder which in turn will mess with your combustion. That is why you have to take it to get tuned like Tony was talking about here, so they can re-calibrate the engine. EGR is an emissions device and since most of you don't care about emissions and only want more power it makes no difference ...unlike the OEMs that have to comply with the great and powerful government to be able to sell their product. But I really wouldn't see why you'd pull it off just to pull it off, unless you don't think you have enough power with your new toy and want to spend money for engine mods. It's all a preferance thing How much money ya got?? LOL!

Re: Final piece of the winter puzzle.

These aren't an actual EGR system. These are the same type of system we used to use on cars in the 80s called an A.I.S.. The air induction system injects fresh air into the exhaust port reducing the unburned gases. In cars they actually did the injecting at the exhaust manifold. On the R1 it is on the cylinder head. After looking at the fiche on it appears to work like a reed on a 2-stroke engine. So it opens from the vacuum created by the exhaust gases rushing out of the cylinder. The biggest reason it needs to be off for Dyno work is because it gives the O2 sensors used to monitor Air Fuel ratio during dyno runs false readings. Actually it makes the O2 sensors think bike is leaner then it actually is because of the add oxygen into the exhaust systems.

Not worth it if you are running the bike stock. It doesn't take power away or add power to the bike. Most the time people do it for the Dyno, stop backfiring in aftermarket exhuast, and to get the extra 2 pounds off there bike.
