another "newbie" killed in durand

a 21 year old bancroft man was killed on a new blue 636 sunday as it was presumed he came out of a wheelie and into a tank slapper and was catapulted 15 ft into a tree and fell to the ground and the the bike was still lodged in the tree.first bike, new rider, normal result.why these kids think that they are invincible is beyond me.

A lot of new riders think, I have a bike let me go as fast as can go and ride wheelies. But anyone of us could come out of a wheelie and have a tank slapper. Been there done that. Bern when you were that young you did tons of **** without ever carrying about what my happen atleast I know I did. Now when I tell those kids becareful they look at me and think shut up you old fawker.

I wonder if that kid was on Myspace I seen son kids with bikes from that area on there when I looking for someone the other day.

seems like alot of newbie crashes this year.. but then again Ive met what seems like ALOT of newbies this year so I guess it makes sense.Taz and I were up @ hooters couple weeks ago-new guys 06r6,and a 06cbr600rr both in shorts n tank top.so we're tryin to sell them on the gear idea n they seem more interested in what we can show them in the way of wheeeelies.I've seen the r6 since then,he graduated to jeans n a tank top :YEAH

when i got my first bike ,i was run over, hit from behind, chewed up and spit out in the first 6 months.it was three summers b4 i even tried a wheelie on a sportbike.i guess it was from the things my dad taught me when i rode and raced dirt bikes as a kid to respect them because they could KILL you.i was 24 when i got my first sportbike against my dads wishes. he was worried about everyone else hitting me and he was right.i never did "tons" of **** without thinking of what could happen or go wrong on a sportbike.thats why ive been riding them for 21 years now.now my son is riding ,and ill be damned if his approach will be any different than mine.thats why i dont ride in packs of riders with little or no experience.i also wouldnt skydive with a chute that someone else packed either.this stuff happens every year, and it makes me sick and it drives insurance rates up more and more.im all for tricks, wheelies and whatnot, but when new riders do this kinda of stuff the result is more likely to be a bad one.yeah, i did tons of **** i shouldnt have as a young man,but nothing that could cost me my life.this kid probably would have got a nice rush out of going 165 mph in a straight line with the odds a little better at his skill level to not crash but i guess we will never know.

i know what you mean when i get that look like : shut up you old fawker........

I didn't realize they made sport bikes that long ago. I used to have one of those classics a 1986 Honda Interceptor.

Go rent the movie "Top Gun" and you'll see Tom Cruize on Rusty's 1st sport bike.

ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! I don't care how much you make or if your broke...........Do what Timex said "spend the money on a steering damper" to avoid tank slaps from wheelies, pot holes and anything else. I would would rather wheelie and ride naked than go without a damper, and that's no shiaattt...........not that anyone would want to see that.

Re: another "newbie" killed in durand

Tank Slappers are tricky. First you know I haven't had a Damper on any of my bikes. I have had a few tank slappers and usually it is because my steering head bearings are loose or need repacked. For a while I was getting them bad at higher speeds. Repacked my bearings and tighten them up to the correct spec and all gone. Yeah I should buy one but fawk it now I think my next bike will come equiped with one on it already.
