my reptile is staring at me.....

Bad *** monitor, glad my babies won't get near that size.
I got a iguana that's almost a year old and 3 foot long, now all he has to do is put on more weight ( gots to feed him twice a day) and a bearded dragon that just lays around. I only had the feeling that once the iguana gets big enough, will I have to worry about him trying to eat me. He gets mad when I put him in the tub. My old roomie had hers, corner her in the bathroom. She had to straddle the toilet and tub in order to get away from him. Can't wait for those days.

Damn, I've had my iguana for 2 years and he's only 29" with the tail. He only eats once a day though, even if I give him food twice a day.

Keep your temps up and they'll eat and grow... Also, since iguanas don't eat whole prey they do not get the vit D needed for development. So, you have to get a UVB bulb and keep that on it as well as a few heat lamps. Also, go to walmart and pick up a digital thermometer. The ones in the red mercury are bullsh!t. NEVER use those or the ones that go on the glass or?????
That way you have exact temps and you are guaranteed what the cool spot is and the basking spot is. Never gop by what you think is a good temp. You have to prove it to your self. Do that and I bet he'll be eating a bit more as he will be more active. Also, weather outside should have nothing to do with the enclosure temps. and its behavior. Also, how humid do you have it too. They are tropical lizards and require more humidity. If yuo haven't covered all these bases then that could be part of the problem. Also, iguanas are know to become VERY aggresive when they get older. You just have to deal with it and keep handling or else it will not tolerate human intervention. Pet stores when selling these guys never go into details normally as they just want a sale or really don't have a damn clue........

Temps are fine. 100W basking bulb for the day and a 60W blacklight at night, with a 250W CHE in the middle of the cage running 24/7. I have 2 48" ReptiLight 5.0 UVBs on top too. Cage is 5' long x 3' high x 2' deep. Its 105 in the basking spot and around 80 at the bottom of the cage. I have about 4 of those stick-on thermometers throughout the cage.
His diet consists of a mix of about 60% greens (collards, mustards, romaine lettuce, escarole, kale) 30% veggies (beans, zuchini, squash, avacado, peas) and 10% fruit (apples, banana).
I have one of those mercury vapor UVB/Heat bulbs, but I haven't put it on the cage yet. I have to buy a 10" holder for it.
I think what is happening is he is constantly losing a tiny bit off the end of his tail, so his overall lenght isn't increasing as much. He has put on about 2" of body since I got him. When I first got him he had an extremely long tail, and now it is not as long in proportion to his body, and no where near as thin.
