very suprising.........You were very close... You are the closest anyone on a site like this has gotten......

savannah monitor - varanus exanthematicus

white throat - varanus albigularis albigularis

black throat - varanus albigualris iodinesi

they are very close but still different.....They have a few variations of the white throat. The cape banded monitor (aka white throat) is usually about 4ft when full grown......

White throat and black throats are only different by locality. They get appx the same size full gorwn....

Here is a white throat........full grown

Notice the black throats , well, throat...........

Now if you look at the full grown white throat you can't tell but look at mine.... You can clearly see how light of patterns it has. But basically has the same ocelli (spots) and line on the head next to the eye..........

Do you have anything? Any reptiles? This guy is sort of for sale. But I would rather not, but am willing to work something out as white throats are ALOT harder to find. Esp. ones with clear markings. I am speakng to a few folks that want to start a breeding project. But we are not sure right now how it is to work out.......

I am thinking about getting a tortoise but to boring but very low maintenance. Not like a big *** monitor that eats almost daily and ***** everyday........

I think I want to get a bullsnake though. They get some girth and length but not big enough to freak people , like landlords, out when they see. it......... Not sure though. You know what I REALLY want though. Well, that's affordable? A hogg island boa.... Those are some nice looking snakes. And don't get very large so easy to maintain......... I want to get a snake as it would be less maintenance, not to mention I could feed it the sh!tload of rats I have frozen away. I have probably 30-35 lbs worth......... Crazy....... I was supposed to give this guy by me probably 50 rat pinks and 20 large rat pup fuzzy's

I breed my own **** so I don't have to pay for them..... Plus I give them my secret mix of food and they grown like SOB's........

snakes

Whats the food. I mainly feed my rats Lab block. SO leftover bones and a corn and seed mix. I like the bullsnakes alot. The only thing is some have a crappy tempermant and when they get bigger that can be a problem. I love the tortoise. I will be building him an outdoor area. I have had him for three years and he is still inside.

I have seen some tame ones on another site. But I guess in general they can be asses. I had one a long time ago but sold it to a friend.... It was like 2 ft though so just a little guy.....

The feed for the rodents is a mix.

I get a large rubbermaid, then put....

-10lbs of puppy or high performance dog food (they need the extra protein and fat) NEVER buy the dog food w/ red dyes, it'll kill'em!!

- 14lb bag of squirrel mix ( has seeds and cracked corn)

- 5lb bag of ol' roy (cheap **** just for variation)

- 8lbs of rabbit pellets

-and mix it all together

then I get..........

- whole corn on the cob dried out (for squirrels, I just drop the whole thing in there)

- A raw hot dog in each enclosure, they tear it up, again for straight protein, or every few days I'll drop in a slice of turkey/chicken/or some lean lunch meat

- chicken bones with the left over meat on it

- A bread slice of wheat bread, I just leave it in there until I clean the cage which is like every 4 days

- 1/4 of a fruit, nothing with to much acidity

- and that's pretty much it. You know just for experimentation. I got some milk and put it in there water bottles and they drank it like a 40oz. They loved it. I left it in there for several hours then put water back in....... Haven't done it since but the milk was going bad and didn't want it to go to waste .... They didn't care........

- LIke I hgad pizza the other day and I'll throw the crust in there and they mack it....

Pretty much anything without harsh spices, etc....
