Re: Breakfast Club

Re: Breakfast Club
It will help the companies that use the most american labor and hurt those who don't. Of course it wouldn't be a flat %age tariff on every good imported into the country. A good start would be electronics and automobiles. Things that aren't a definate need. You can do without a new car or a new 60" tv.
Re: Breakfast Club
i hate that more than anything. when i was a kid, my neighborhood had woods to play in and build bike tracks. now all the woods are gone, we have McMansions and shopping centers
Re: Breakfast Club
Americans debt to income ratio is horrific, and consumer electronics are part of that. I mean, I honestly didn't need a 57" DLP Toshiba, but the price was right and I threw it on a CC... but that's the point, you raise Tariff's too much and **** will get even more expensive. Nothing wrong with buying products that are cheaper from other countries, but what the problem is when we are not utilizing what our country can specialize in.
Re: Breakfast Club
Websense blocks every site like that I have tried so far. IP relays.

Re: Breakfast Club
It's very difficult to not have the economy restore balance. If you haven't already, read about "The Invisible Hand" by Adam Smith. The economy will reset itself over time, shocking the economy only creates scarcity, and scarcity creates price increases along with demand increases. The economy will almost ALWAYS return to equilibrium, considering Ceteris Paribus. (No planes crashing into towers or the pentagon)

Re: Breakfast Club
That's the problem though, America does not "specialize" in making tech products like that. If Americans were to build the exact same 57" DLP it would cost about 2x's more b/c of the cost and labor to make. Now I'm not saying that Americans COULDN'T eventually make a product as cheap, and as quickly the Asian countries, but the fact is initially it will cost too much and unless we completely ditch all foreign goods and make internally the competition will be cheaper and nobody will buy a more expensive American made product when they walk into a Best Buy and see the Toshiba sitting next to the American made TV that is 1/2 of the cost. And either you are Mike said it earlier, the average income is only 43k a year, nobody can afford to pay double for a product that may be better in quality.
