Sprocket questions

I am getting a new bike this year and would love to make it an all around bike. Last year I had an 03 Gix 600 and had no problems getting the bike up. Being that it was my first street bike I didn't want to play too much after watching many friends bail and loose their $heit....

Anyway, is there a scale or chart showing that if you go -1 in the front how many you would go in the rear to keep it stock?

Basically I would like to understand how the front/rear sprocket changes affect overall speed of the bike. I ryde fast, for certain pig related reasons, when I have to and cannot lose that. If I need to get another bike to rock slow stuff I will.

P.S. Crazy Dan looks like stock gearing and he is doing hella slow stuff. Very good ryder, if not one of the best IMO.

Re: Sprocket questions

crazy gay dan rocks some gearing, he rode his 954 stock in 2002.

down one is the equivalent of up two-three. what you want is a ratio chart, i dont have one. try street and competition, racers use that ration oftentimes to determine gearing for specific tracks.

if you do down 1 and up 3, or thereabouts, you will still be able to achieve high speed. when is the last time you needed to do 160 on your sixhundo? all you need is some acceleration and 130-140 to do what you want....the top end of most bikes is rarely attainable on the track, much less the street.

Re: Sprocket questions

Yeah, I think Crazy Dan is +16... IF your seeing pics of him rocking stock, those are older...

I have -1+5, I havent tried top speed or triple digits for that matter since I got this set-up... I dont plan on running from cops or going crazy on the highway.. Soon Im going to try -2+5, I know twist rock has that set-up on his f4i, and I think he can still reach 130mph

Re: Sprocket questions

How will going -1, +3, affect the odometer? I mean if I ride a true 5 miles, how many miles will my bike read?

Re: Sprocket questions

here goes:

on 600cc bikes:
1 tooth in the front changes ratio 6.6%
1 tooth in the rear changes ratio 2.2%

example- if you go -1 Front, you make bike stock again you need -3 rear
