Thanks B.
bpmull, I love these bikes.
Not many people are fans of the ZX bikes but I think recently some are catching on. Especially the with ZX6R.
People that I know that have, or have had that bike are Webber, Todd Colbert, DSOG Thomas, Joe who was with XXX, and a couple others here and there, not sure of al the names.
The ZX9s have alot of power, sometimes making it a little harder I think to balance and keep the bike smooth. I am not on the level of riding as many others here, but I do know kawasaki's, they are the only sportbikes I have ever owned.
The '98 - '02 are almost all identical. Biggest changes were in 2000. The '98 and '99 are basically identical and the '00 and '01 are as well. Biggest changes are from '99 to '00. The cosmetic change with the upper when they made the dual headlights in '00, which is heavier and does not hold up well to even small wrecks. The other major difference is that the '98 and '99 are the only ZX9Rs that don't have a bolt on sub-frame. '94 - '97 and '00 to present all have bolt on sub-frames.
If you wreck and need to replace your sub-frame you are going to a welder for sure. That was the biggest reason I went with a '00 for stunts.
I have a '98 and a '00 and I love them both, but the better of the two for stunts is the '00 for the reason of just the sub-frame alone.
I have only seen a few others riding them, Ben Doe, then there is a guy with Road Hazards. Not many others, 1 or 2 that I know of.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with or answer for you.
Later!
Oh one more thing!
A big problem for all the ZX9Rs and the ZX6Rs is that almost nobody makes a frame slider kit for the bikes that actually protect the bike, the use the shitty fairing tab screw. I had a small fall over where my '98 fell over and the crappy slider "bolt" simply snapped. It protected nothing and I had to replace the fairing, case cover, lower and a few other small things.
There is one company, in the UK that makes a kit that actually uses the ZX9Rs engine bolts like on a gsxr or other bikes. That kit is $160 though! I have purchased that kit and had it duplicated. I will be selling a kit for just the ZX9R soon that will use the engine mount instead of the fairing bolt, for alot less than that other company does. If you are interested let me know and I will give you more details.
