$30 Dollar hand brake!!!

I figured out a cheap way to make a hand brake, I bought a $8.00 generic clutch lever and perch from the local cycle shop along with a rear brake cable from a late 70's honda xl 350 cost $18.00. I routed the cable to the rear master cylinder and welded a nut on the steel part of the brake lever and a perch for the cable off my www.freestyleingenuity.com cage so when you pull the lever it's pulls your rear brake pedal down, I'm not sure if it works as well as a hydraulic unit but it works well enough to do a 5-10 mph feet over and parking shouldnt be a problem, plus all the other hand brake tricks, slow flamingo's, spreaders etc. here's some pics of my setup

Sweet setup! Darius!

But, as mentioned above it seems that it would be very difficult to use.

I know that Miguel DuHamel runs a thumb brake on his race bikes, both the 600 and the RC51.

Check out this site..http://www.dynobike.com/brakes.htm They don't list prices but this is a smaller lever and could be mounted lower.

Just my $.02

Later,
954john

I heard thumb brakes suck, you cant apply enough pressure to the rear brake, most thumb brakes are designed for racing and specificly say that they do not lock up the brake
