I learned standups first... they are definetley easier to control.

Go with whatever is more comfortable for you.

first i learned how to pop the clutch sitting down and just controlling the throttle then i moved onto standing up with my left leg on the rear peg by bouncing it and powering it up in second, now I clutch it up while standing in second. I used to be able to only hold them for a little while also then i realized the balance point on the 1 is really high, now i can hold them for a while

Okay, I know we're gonna get that whole 'we must be a bunch of beginner squids' look from some of the killa stunnas on the site, but I feel compelled to put my 2 cents in as an intermediate and let some of the other guys learning how I progressed.

1. Got the 1st gear sitdown power wheelies locked.
1.5. Got the 1st gear balance point wheelies locked.
2. Got the 2nd gear sitdown power wheelies locked.
2.5. Got the 2nd gear balance point wheelies locked.
3. Now I'm working on 2nd gear standups.

Again, just my input from what seemed comfortable to me.
