97 zx9 70 tooth sprocket... Chain?
Re: 97 zx9 70 tooth sprocket... Chain?
Holy crap!!! 70t is HUGE!!! Especially for a ZX9!!! If I'm not mistaken...your stock gearing is 16 front 44 rear. Mainly going to be a lot bike? If so 70t is still HUGE!!! If you're learning I don't recommend that big of sprocket but if you know what you're doing I guess you can put what ever you want on it as long as you're comfortable...
Either way this site is awesome, load your bike, get stock gearing and chain links and speed and RPM, then you can mess with sprocket sizes, see what they do to your speed, and see how many links are required for what you want...

This site is MONEY!
After looking at it....Your 16 - 70 isn't too different than my 14 -54. I have a 636 though so way less weight to lift. You could eat dinner of the 70t lol...HUGE!!!

hehe...yea sorry i'm an engineer so that site might look confusing to some. Its pretty simple...pick your bike's model and year and all that good stuff in the drop down menus then click the load gearing button. This will load your stock gearing in the RPM/Speed graph below and it will be displayed in the Stock, Current, and Custom data area, I think it's red yellow and green. Then all you have to do is under where it says Final Drive Ratio Front/Rear, pick either the Current slot or Custom slot and input the number of teeth you want your set up to be and click enter or click the button below which corresponds with the slot you picked (Stock, Current or Custom). You can load up to 3 set ups (Stock, Current, or Custom) and toggle between the 3 to determine how they differ. Your graph below will now show your given speed at a certain RPM. You will see how putting more teeth on the back will decrease your top speed and less teeth will increase top speed. Usually 100-110mph top speed is around where you want it for stunting in a lot.
Also I thought this little gearing application showed you how many links you would need for a given set up but it just shows the stock links and makes you put it in manually...sorry
Hope this is not too confusing...it really is super easy once you get the hang of it.
Once you do though you can start seeing what putting different tire sizes, rim sizes, tire widths, chain pitch, all does to your speed and final drive ratio.
But for now just worry about the parts mentioned above.
Hope this helps...
