I wouldn't "think" so, but I'm not positive.
I know on car shocks, without a spring, they stay in whatever position you leave them. Like I can compress my car shocks all the way and they stay there without a spring to pull them back up
I wouldn't be surprised if my shock is blown, 8 years old and 43k miles, just seems weird it would lower my bike.
I guess I just need to measure my friends shock and compare to mine

I pulled brand new shocks out of a box and they were compressed inside the box... I had to physically pull them out to extend them

edit: I guess I should have added, I believe my honda's shocks DO extend on their own.. I guess they are 'struts' that don't extend on their own? All I know is my friends brand new ranchero shocks/struts wahtever they are for his jeep came in a box already compressed, and I had to pull them out to mount them
