New tire=Wheelies suck

I found a nearly new tire behind the shop and had it patched and plugged and then we mounted it on my rim. Now when I do second gear wheelies the bike wants to pull to the right really hard. This only happens while up in a wheelie though. I don't feel it while doing slow wheelies. I'm thinking this is because we didn't balance the tire. Could this be the case?

I'm running 30psi right now...I like to kneedrag so I try to keep it around there. I'll try dumping the air some more.

Nope nope nope....never had this problem until we put this tire on. It happens whenever I'm trying to do 2nd gear standups. Maybe it is air pressure, I'll drop it to 25 and see how it handles. The tire is mounted good, and the axle is straight. My guess is either the tire needs to be balanced or I'm running too much pressure. But my main guess is balance.

pressure would just make the bike turn easier, unless there is uneven wear.

Balancing involves minimizing too much weight being on one side of the tire relative to the rotation of the tire not from side to side.

I never balance a tire, I put them on myself and have had problems before but found that it wasn't the tire it was me.

Hope it helps

pressure

quote"pressure would just make the bike turn easier, unless there is uneven wear."

Well this is true, but the bike wants to turn when you are in a wheelie too.....lower the pressure and you will be fine. Try about 14 PSI!!!!!

whoa.....30psi? I run 15 and 10 when i'm doing slow stuff. 15 is my normal pressure with passengers and stuff and i hit twisties, not as hard as i used to, but i still hit them. The tire might have uneven wear also.

different tires act different ways also. I just put a 208 on my bike and for some reason it pulls left now, when it used to pull right. haven't changed anything else but the tire so who knows.

.
damn do some of you even read the original post?

personally for anything in second gear it helped me to run around 30pis in the rear(gixxer). i had problems with the bike pulling one way or the other, and honestly it was all in my head. could be your problem even if you think it's not.....

Tire wear is even, the tire is almost brand new and I was running between 25-30psi with the old tire, but that thing had almost no tread on it left when I junked it. Somehow the wheelie drift is linked to this new tire...I just need to figure out how. It seems harder to pull up also for some reason.

what in my post says i didn't read it? i read all the posts. Seems to be teh recommendation from other people and also the fact that mine pulls opposite the way it used to by changing tires.

Re: New tire=Wheelies suck

Your old tire was probably squared off (Flatish in the middle) So that made wheelies much easier, If you lower your tire pressure quite a bit down to 10-15 then wheelies will be more controlled.
