On-Point Tail Saver for 636

Hi Guys,

If you all remember, I have put together a small line of stunt parts for the F4i consisting of an Oil Pick Up, Gauge Bracket, and Tail Saver. Since then I have had several people ask me if I can make them a Tail Saver for a 636. I have not done so because all my buddies and I stunt F4i's, but if enough people want them I will go out and find a 636 to use to fabricate the prototype and them put them into production at a low cost for all you guys out there. So my question is how many of you guys would be interested in a Tail Saver for a 636 and for what year bike should I make it for?

Here are the Details of the one I carry for the F4i - This prevents your tail from breaking when doing Seat Stander wheelies and provides a stable platform with increased traction. Made of 1/8" diamond plate steel and Rhino lined for extra traction. Normal retail price $99.99, currant promotional price $69.99 plus $9.99 for shipping. Attached are the pics and the price would be the same for the 636.

Thanks guys and look forward to hearing the feedback.

No. I took that into consideration. If you look at it closely you see that it is below the rear seat and does not extend beyond the sides of the tail so you don't snag your legs when doing staggered. It would not come in contact with your body if you failed a stoppie. What you should really be concerned with is the 12 bar. That will give to a mark to remember..

Am I the only one that thinks these "tail saver" things should be designed to go on the inside of the tail section

The seat and tail are going to collapse. The steel won't.

first off i run a round bar, second if you push in on the seat youll hit the tail saver

Re: On-Point Tail Saver for 636

Ok, you guys who are worried about it killing you when you flip a stoppie - dont get one, or dont flip a stoppie.

JohnnyP - for safety, yes. for traction, no.

OnPoint - Is there more to it than a single piece of diamond plate bent into shape? I like the idea but I couldnt make myself pay 80 bucks for a single piece of diamond plate

For traction Id add grip tape However I dont see a point to saving my minty tail by covering it with a piece of steel...Considering I have never broken a 636 tail there, in 4 years and about 10 different tails.... 03/04 just dont need one IMO

Re: On-Point Tail Saver for 636

i think its a great idea and would buy onethe f4i ones look sick and i like the idea of having a steel platform to stand on when in SS position, rather than my seats...not that ive ever broke/crushed a 03-04 tail but it sure would save my sick *** custom seats a beatingPM me when you get em made and ill buy one

Yes it is a single piece of diamond plate, but it takes a decent amount of time and work to get the shape just right and the bends at the right angles. If you are good at fabricating, sure you can make one yourself. But when you factor in the labor, high cost of diamond plate, and Rhino lining, $69.99 plus shipping is not so bad, considering that Sick Inovations sells them for $119.99 plus shipping. I only make a small profit on these and if I was to do them any cheaper there would be nothing left over to justify the effort

That's why I'm asking, cause I don't ride a 636 and am not sure if it is needed, but since people are asking me for it, I figured I'd ask around.

No. Its a Dakine surfboard traction pad turned the other way around and glued in place for extra strength. It works sick.

Thx for all the feedback guys. I appreciate it.

Imo if your gonna do the inside of the tail, might as well just fiberglass it or something

+1 that is the dope way to do it if you don't want a plate. I run my f4i with about 12-15 layers of fiberglass right in the middle, ****** is strong as ****, I can jump on it all day and never crack

I do like the plates though, they add a lot of control to the bike instead of the tail flexing, but if you want a plate for the inside to be hiden, might as well just glass it

Re: On-Point Tail Saver for 636

i say the engraving is fine because it shows that its his product.. SI does the same thing.. but i personally like it to be completely flat without all those liddle thingys (i dunno what the'r called) and its easier to put grip tape

My buddy was telling me the same thing, but when he tried it with the diamond plate and Rhino lining, he loved it. It's more then enough traction and looks clean.
