Ok basicly, if you use a lower grade bolt, the cage will fail.

If you smack the right side cover, the clutch cover, on the 929, chances are, you are going to loose the motor. Too many internals and aluminum pieces break.

The right side tab on teh 929's tends to break a lot. When Patrick, Tim, and I started testing these things out, ALL 3 of us broke in the same form that binder929's did. Its just a weak part in the frame. Built we all 3 had ours welded up, and all 3 of us have not had problems with it again.

So once binder gets his frame welded, not only will that point on the frame be stronger, built the cage will be stronger as well, as the frame will support it much more now, seeing as how it is reinforced.

I run grade 10 bolts on my cage and crash on it weekly. Granted it wasn't near as hard as binder's crash, but my cage holds up fine.

The reason the binder's frame tab broke besides it being weak, was, if you take a look at the video, just before the bike crashes, it high sides and slams the bike down on the right side directly on the frame slider. So you have a 400 plus pound bike, with some decent speed, slamming down on a frame slider 1 1/2" in diameter.

In any crash, the part that breaks is always the weakest part in the point of contact. i.e. if the cage was indestructable, the conrete might break away. In binder's case, the frame broke.

All in all, when everything is together, and his tab is now reinforced, i highly doubt that he will ever encounter this problem again. Sorry to make you guys read all that. Jus thought I would elaborate for those who wanted to know.

Good stuff man, it makes sense. I just watched the crash and that was definitley a violent one !!!
One question, when you guys say you got your frame welded up are you taking the bike to the shop or are you actually pulling the motor out and just taking the frame in ???
I cant imagine you are actually gutting the bike to get this done but I dont know.
This is obvioulsy for future reference
Cheers

funny thing is, when mine broke, i rocked it like that for abuot 4 months and didnt have a problem with it. Then Ant from MIST moved down here to TX and brought his alminum welder with him.

So he took the tab, put a bolt throught it to hold it in place, and then ran one weld, gorgeous weld i might add, on the outside of the frame to fill in the crack.

The bolt was actually the same bolt that holds the slider on, with a bunch of washers on it so it didnt bottom out.

like i said when you posted that thread about my sliders...you can't just go out and "buy" a stunt bike and get either sliders or a cage and expect to throw your bike down hard learning stunts and expect to be able to pick your bike up and drive away...when ever i have crashed on a 12, i try to run behind it as long as possible and try to get it to land on it's wheels...it has worked everytime, but one time....luckily my sliders held up....

every crash has to have something that will give...whether it's my sliders or freestyle inguinity's cage....

every problem i hear about the F.I. cages seem to ALL be related to 929's and 954's . my bikes been down countless time from twelves and other stupid **** and all i do is replace bent bolts and bend the cage back into shape.

so i know how to crash them eh?

gimix, if i find it i'll get it to you.

cbrorange...ya, i know **** breaks but the bike will be back togehter today, i'm leaving right now to get it welded. also, it looks close quarters but it really wasn't. the camera woman was standing about 20 feet away and there was probably a good 150 feet of runway with a path about 20-30 feet wide. closest thing i came to was that white car and i was heading at an angle away from it and about 15 feet away after the bike jumped back left. I wasn't worried. There were no people standing around either, they were all behind me (or to the right of where the camera was)

damage update, i got my frame welded, the the threads are stripped bad so waht should i do? should i just drill it through and put a nut on teh backside or what?

also, my bike isn't cooling itself down. It'll cool down if i drive but it should stay at like 220 when it's idling and it doesn't, it just keeps climbing. is there a thermostat switch or something or is my water pump going bad?

binder.. i don't have a 929, so maybe someone else can chime in..

but is your fan operating at idle above 200deg? it ought to be. if that's not kicking on, that may be the and/or one problem. also, on cars, generally the water pump starts to leak when it fails..

i have another thread for it, but yes, the fan kicks on, so the switch is ok, but that doesn't mean the thermostat inside the engine isn't stuck halfway open.

and there are no leaks.
