Electric Stuntbike.
Re: Electric Stuntbike.
We are still way behind in our battery and elcetric engine technologies to make a stunt bike outta these things. IMO its pretty lame for that company to make a motard in this economy.
Re: Electric Stuntbike.
I posted this because I'm converting an old 89 cbr 600f hurricane into an electric bike.
So I most likely need a clutch... A transmission would be good anyway just for added range/efficiency. And a big back sprocket, that's good anyway on electric bikes just to get that added acceleration.
I'll revive this thread back from the dead when the project is complete and I attempt some wheelies.
Main thing on the first version of my bike is I will be using lead-acid batteries which are ******* heavy, instead of lithium ion (expensive), so I'd have to distribute the weight correctly, and hopefully it won't be too heavy to get the front tire up high.
And yeah I would never buy that bike that I posted, it was an example, but I sorta want to design mine to be stuntable.
And thanks for your input

Re: Electric Stuntbike.
some short of motor speed controler i guess. besided that fact that electric motors are very twitchy, there is vertually no feed back in terms of feel. also no or not much engine brake...
but going off that picture and info above... that bike is going to be doing much if anything as far as freestyle goes...

what the **** is a 'motor speed controler'?
Re: Electric Stuntbike.
its more commonly referred to as an ESC(electronic speed controller). it is a device that regulates how much power is going to the motor. basically a solid state rheostat. if you just hook up a certain amount of power to an electric motor, the motor will turn as fast as it can with the power it is recieving. in a case where variable speed is needed, you cant just hook power to motor. you need something to regulate it...the ESC

Re: Electric Stuntbike.
I'm pretty sure electric motors don't idle. They just wind down to a stop because 0 volts is applied when throttle is closed.
Takes time for it to stop though because there's not a great deal of resistance on the shaft like there is on an internal combustion engine (compression).

its kinda simple really.
like a house ceiling fan works, you just use a inline switch that reduses the voltage to the motor to the range you want.
with todays electronics,it would be rather easy to set several power output points(idle speeds) for dif types of tricks.
elec motors do have huge amounts of tourqe also engine braking.
the internal magnets make the motor slow to a stop unless power is applied.
with the rite chasis,it may be a cool idea.
finding the rite power source and motor would be the hardest part,as well as figuring out the controls.
it would need a huge gear to have a easy lift since a standard clutch is not available.
goodluck with this project,i look forward to seeing what ya put together
Re: Electric Stuntbike.
Would an electric bike make for a good stuntbike?

T COUNTING THE BEERS THAT MY BUDDIES BOUGHT

DRUNK
YUP
Re: Electric Stuntbike.
Thanks for the support. Would someone explain the significance of idle speed to stunting? I'm missing something...
I'm thinking 4 batteries up front (where the engine would be) and 2 in the back so I have some weight over the wheel for easier wheelies (like a fat chick). I'll definitely be putting in a larger rear sprocket. I'm thinking a 4:1 ratio, back : front sprockets.
Fiberglass some fairings to cover the ugly batteries from sight and elements... I'm having fun so far, but the near $2000 expense is not very fun :P
