I just stuck this motor in and it's knocking. Any ideas? The sound quality is pretty bad, but you get the picture. It has a cam chain tensioner adjustment on it, but I don't know if that's what the problem is.

sounds pretty grumpy to me, thats not the cam chain

 

ya that doesnt sound like a cam chain. i wouldnt start the bike anymore just going to cause more damage

 

Yeah, I'm pissed...I put a bunch of lucas in it, too. It must be bad. It would figure that I would find a blown motor.

 

rod knock or exploded clutch basket. pull the clutch cover.

get one of those mechanic stethescopes to find out where its coming from

 

i'd pull the clutch cover off first.... if thats the problem... easy fix, if you run it out of balance you will do more damage. The mag could be damaged as well but I'd put money on the clutch first. If thats not it, its definitely something in the bottom end.


I saw a motor on craiglist in the chicago area for like 175, it was missing the cams/valve cover. that would be an easy transplant.

It ended up being a combination of the cam chain and an exhaust leak. It's smooth as butter now, which I can't believe. It sounded really bad.

 

sounds like its a rev away from throwing a rod!
