Should a nub change gearing.
Re: Should a nub change gearing.
Ya but honestly
if you can ride idle on stock sprockets, whats it take to learn on gearing? 10 maybe 15 minutes? LITEARLLY.. 10 maybe 15 minues.. I evne went from stock gearing, to +20 gearing, and it lierally took me minutes to slow wheelies down more then I did with stock
I agree gearing will help on slow wheelies.. But if your riding wheelies just like the yut ugh guy, then IMO it will not help at all...
Everyone I know that changed gearing before learning to do a bp wheelie, years later, still are riding power wheelies..
IMO this guy would be WORSE at wheelies with gearing

Whereas someone like this (on a 600 of course) would probably get better a lot faster with gearing

edit: I'm just taknig a guess here, but I'm assuming OMR and SIC J are just used to 'good' stunt riders.. Not the average squid I come to expect =\

Re: Should a nub change gearing.
I'm not saying you cant
I just personally don't think gearing will help someone that's chopping the throttle ridin to rev limiter
I think they are better off waiting tell they can at least ride a steady wheelie before gearing.. Then gear it up and it will be no problem to control...
But all my friends that do power wheelies, gear and ride extremely choppy power wheelies

you "PERSONALLY" dont think that, and whos to say the kid is riding the rev limiter???you making this into more than it needs to be....
if your learning to stunt in a parking lot, your learning slow stuff and going to learn control either way its only human, weather it be stock or a 60 tooth your gonna get the hang of how it feels, and progress either way.... if your saying someone who is going down the street just trying to power it up at 10 grand in first gear and ride it a pole length then yea i wouldnt say get a sprocket...
but if you wanna learn the right way to ride a wheelie, then a sprocket is fine, just take it slow, wear your gear, and as far as riding wheelies down the street that will all come as you get more and more confortable with the bike... so its your call on the sprocket but everyone learns in there own way so its a hard subject to ask advice on i guess

My first post in this thread
I'd say keep stock sprockets tell you can ride a smooth controlled wheelie at 30mph or less
If your steady on the throttle nad keeping steady speed, then gear it up!

Re: Should a nub change gearing.
If you already got it on there rock it. I learned on a 53 / 15 on a f4i. Just be easy with that girl don't treat it like your ex
Duno why everyone says go back to stock first stock gearing sux!

Gonna throw my stock gears on this summer just for all the squids around here that say they could do what I do if they had big sprockets

Re: Should a nub change gearing.
Haha feel you on that one i've heard I could do circles in like 2 weeks if I had a bigger sprocket twice already this season from ppl that can't even ride bp.

Re: Should a nub change gearing.
I was on stock gearing on my 05 636 and I went up 17 and loved it....when i was on stock I was only doing standups on the highway then i decided after my 3 wrecklesses that im gonna take it to the lot and went up 17 thanks to keith at tandem designworkz. I thought it was cake to learn on bigger i was catching idle first lot session. by the forth I was scraping not for long but just a little tap. still learning though but i would do it and not look back go big not huge but like a 53 on the streets and a 58-60 in the lot 636 dont need anybigger and really dont need that it just makes it more fun believe it or not(to me anyway). Omr gives good advice him and arminian, plus keith got me going in the right direction.
So go BIG!!!!
So go BIG!!!!

and all im saying is that he never once said he was riding power wheelies at the rev limiter, and you keep saying that over and over.... he said hes been riding for 3 years and want to get into it.... SOOOO im just saying put your sprocket and gear on and goto a lot and do it, he will learn either way......

Ya you can learn on anything, but I'd rather see someone control a wheelie before wasting their time with gearing
and I know plenty of people that have rode over 3 years and still can't ride a wheelie for 30 foot

+1 I went +12 from stock over the winter and it didn't take me any time to get used to it.
