You don't need dinner plates till you start doin tank ****,or catchin idle on a weak *** bike, learn on your stock gears and get balance point, throttle control, and brake control, down tight, practice everything in first gear,if you fall you wont be goin so fast,(save yourself and the bike)do a search for gearing,it will tell you everything you need to know, good luck

you dont need a big sprocket. i never gear my bikes more than +7 in the rear and it works perfect for everything

Re: Should a nub change gearing.

I dont think 48 is a big sprocket, but dont remember what stock is for 636,I'm runnin a 60 tooth on my f4i,thats big enough for anything I'll ever do.it would be hard to learn on a big sprocket IMO.very twitchy throttle

Re: Should a nub change gearing.

you have to learn to walk before you can run, but anyways you already have the gearing so **** IT put em on just wear your gear and learn on one of your boys bike so you dont wreck yours

Re: Should a nub change gearing.

48 is prob only +5, and a 14 is prob -2, compared to Gsxr's. so that's like +11/12.

Re: Should a nub change gearing.

I'd say keep stock sprockets tell you can ride a smooth controlled wheelie at 30mph or less

If your steady on the throttle nad keeping steady speed, then gear it up!

If your chasing rev limiter choppy n the throttle nad your best wheelie is 1 block, leave stock gearing

Never said it was "necessary".I had trouble wit tank tricks and catchin idle with stock gearing on my old bike until I got gearing, everyone learns differently, thats why I said "IMO",what I do may not work for others.but if it helps, then great.

run what ya brung , you will get used to any thing eventually i mean if you plan on gearing it later youre just gonna have to relearn so i say gear it and get used to it

i think you and me are the only ones that ever tell people this.

seriously, why the hell would you wanna learn on stock gearing when youre gonna gear your bike later anyways and probably never go back to stock gearing again

Ya but honestly

if you can ride idle on stock sprockets, whats it take to learn on gearing? 10 maybe 15 minutes? LITEARLLY.. 10 maybe 15 minues.. I evne went from stock gearing, to +20 gearing, and it lierally took me minutes to slow wheelies down more then I did with stock

I agree gearing will help on slow wheelies.. But if your riding wheelies just like the yut ugh guy, then IMO it will not help at all...

Everyone I know that changed gearing before learning to do a bp wheelie, years later, still are riding power wheelies..

IMO this guy would be WORSE at wheelies with gearing

Whereas someone like this (on a 600 of course) would probably get better a lot faster with gearing

edit: I'm just taknig a guess here, but I'm assuming OMR and SIC J are just used to 'good' stunt riders.. Not the average squid I come to expect =\
