Soak em? Do you mean pre-soak them? Just clarifying because I've never done a clutch yet.

Re: clutch

Yea, just soak the plates in oil before you put them in. Ive heard people say 5 minutes and others say a half hour. I normally let em soak will Im pulling everything else apart and then throw em in.

Re: clutch

i put a new one in at the beginning of summer but they gave me the wrong size plates so i took the old ones to the shop to check to see if they were worped...only one of them was bad so i just replaced it and used the old ones with new pads.....it burnt up before end of summer..should i have just put in a whole new clutch instead

I would have went ahead with replacing the whole thing. But you were probably better off this way seeing as how the fibers are fairly cheap. I would go ahead and replace the whole thing now though. Fibers and steels.

Re: clutch

i always do the springs, fiber, and steels every clutch change. also i look at the basket for any signs of wear. and if i do need to replace a basket, i always try to see if there is a billet basket available.

I try and keep my Internals as Stock as possible. they were built to be reliable and I have had great luck out of my stock clutch. 14,500 miles on it. I have heard some bad things about a barnet clutch system from ALOT of people. I would advise against those unless drag racing and are replacing them every pass. But the billet Basket would probably be a good Idea!

Thank you for being the first to tell me that... I wish you good luck with it. My beef has been with R1's and R6's... Its kind of all I really deal with. R1 and R6 Forum is basically all the people we sell too. Bias opinion I guess. Oh well...

Re: clutch

stock, soak them over nite in a clean pan....like a disposable aluminum cooking pan. stiffer springs would probably be good. pay attention to the parts as you pull them out. metal discs are stamped out, there is a round edge and a sharp edge, most bikes have all the rounded edges facing IN, I did a clutch on a bike that was specific about putting the plates in this way so I always pay attention to this as I pull them out. Many reed valve motors are like this too... the metal reeds are stamped out and the sharp edge doesnt give the reed a proper seal so they say to have it facing out. most people dont care to pay this much attention to detail but I do.
