having problem removing si cage on f4i.
Re: having problem removing si cage on f4i.
I wanted to try a 12 point cause I have 6 point deep sockets and I can't grab on the nut idk y maybe the cage got a lil bent at some point. I thought I might have a lil better luck grabbing on it with a 12 point just a thought. Or I could try to grind a lil bit off the sides of the socket to make it thinner so I could get on it maybe

I grinder down my socket and got it to work. I'm hoping the socket gets stuck in there when I put it on and that will make it easier next time.

What are you guys doing?? I can put on and take my cage off in about 5 minutes. Here are instructions for the 03-06 636.

First of all, open your hardware kit and lay out all the bolts that came in the kit. You should have 1- 10mmx1.25 allen bolt. This are for your left front engine mount. This bolt will use the stock nut. Secondly, you should have 1- long allen bolt with a nut threaded onto it. This is for your right front engine mount. Use the nut that came with the bolt. DO NOT use the stock nut. Next you find 1 small allen bolt. This is for the lower mount where the 2 sides connect to each other directly behind the exhaust header. You will also find a long threaded rod. This is for the rear engine mount. Lastly, there is 1 black spacer. This spacer will go to the left front engine mount. The spacer goes between the cage and the frame.
To get started, remove your left front engine mount bolt. You DO NOT want to remove all the bolts at once because your motor will sag in the frame and it will be difficult to ge the bolts started. Take the left portion of the cage and drop the allen bolt into the left front mount on the cage and have the bolt hanging out of the mount. Take the spacer and slide it onto the bolt. Next you will take the cage piece and set it up to the engine mounts and get the front motor mount bolt started only a few turns. DO NOT TIGHTEN THE BOLT UP YET. Now you want to take the threaded rod, remove one of the nuts and slide it through the cage and through the swing arm bolt until it is sticking out the other side. Now you will go to the other side of the bike and remove the right front engine mount bolt. Take the cage piece, remove the nut from the bolt and drop the bolt through the front mount on the cage and have it hanging out the other side. Hold it up to the engine mounts, get the bolt started through the mount, hold the nut on the back of the mount and get the bolt started only a few turns. DO NOT TIGHTEN THE BOLT YET. Next you want to make sure the threaded rod is sticking through the rear mount. Take the nut that came with it and get it started only a few turns. Now you will take the small allen bolt and stick it through the left lower mount get it started only a few turns. Once all the bolts are started, you can now tighten the cage up. The tightening sequence is important. Start with the lower mount and tighten it up. Next you will go to the rear engine mount and tighten it up. Lastly, tighten your front engine mount bolts.

Re: having problem removing si cage on f4i.
i have a s.i. cage, to get that nut off you need a deep socket, not a regular one, the bolt is so long it stops you from being able to get the socket on the nut. a big flathead screwdriver works good too though for holding it while your turning the bolt.
