Re: Kayaba Rear Shock 03 636

Sounds like you unthreaded the end off the shaft, which sucks because if you dont hold the end, the inner tube will shoot out because of the oil pressure....

That sucks! especially since you did not have to unthread that end to get the spring off...

Good luck re charging that shock

Unscrew the preload collars all the way, compress the spring a little and slip the plate on the bottom out...It has a slot in it, so it can come out without taking the end off...

Once the plate on the bottom is removed the spring can just slide right off....

Once you get this bottom retainer off, the spring can just slide right off

A good shop should be able to do it, not one that does more lawn moar service then sportbikes. A good shop that does suspension tuning should be able to though....

Re: Kayaba Rear Shock 03 636

The majority of motorcycle dealers and service shops that don't specialize in suspension will not have the proper tools. I wish you would have done this about a month from now. I'm buying a nitro tank hydraulic press, and a few other things to start rebuilding tube frame buell rear shocks.....
