Re: oil levels crf450r

for tranny, take out the fill bolt, and slowly fill till it comes out, it takes ALMOST a full bottle of the Honda HP red tranny stuff.

for the engine, it takes a bit less than a quart, my x has a dipstick, I just keep checking it while filling.

Re: oil levels crf450r

I hope you mean the top of the tranny fill bolt on the side of the case (which is slightly lower than the middle part of the case, and not the top of the tranny plug. cause if you filled to the top of the tranny plug, its overfilled

Re: oil levels crf450r

On the older CRF's the trans check bolt was placed too low. If u go by the check hole the coutershaft bearings and waterpump will go out.
U have to measure it then pour it in.

I dont remember what year they fixed it.

The Honda service reps told us that in a class when the CRF's came out.

i always used the hp4m oil and in the trans the honda fluids, never had any problems and had about 100 hours on my motor b4 rebuilding it. just keep checking the valves and changing oil and they are bullet proof

Re: oil levels crf450r

Just curious

you've had that 450 for a long time right? And this is the first time changing your oil?

How often do you change it??

I change my dirt bikes oil every 4-6 rides.. And my f4i gets it every 500-1500 miles depending on how I rode it

100 hours before a rebuild?!

Whats that, like 20 days of riding it?!

What do you do, rebuild it 2-4 times a year? Or just never ride it?

Re: oil levels crf450r

so i'm confused as all hell now.......on a 2003 crf 450, the right side (as your sitting on it) is considered the trans oil and the left side is the motor oil, correct? and i can put regular 20w40 motor oil in for the tranny fluid????
