Inconsistant Idle on 03 636

I recently acquired a 03 636 with high miles. The idle is terrible on it. It doesn't want to hold a consistant idle, whether I set it to be 1.5k or 3k or whatever Rpm.

On the streets, if am riding normally, and downshift through the gears coming to a light with the clutch in, it will want to stall if I don't blurp the throttle.

Trying to circle on idle is terrible, especially if you come from slowing a wheelie down to dipping it in, there is no idle pull to keep you going. I never know where the idle is going to be.

It has 30k plus miles on it. Runs strong otherwise. Absolutely rips compared to my f4i, but the idle problem is pissing me off.

Also, when it is hot, it won't start unless you give it some gas when you are hitting the starter button. Its weird, kinda like it is carbed or somethin.

It does have the clean air mod installed.

Any insight or advice would be appreciated.

maybe time for a valve adjustment. just because when it gets hot worn valves/shims might not be opening or closing all the way

I figured the same thing, but don't know that a vavle adjustment could be related to the idle.

Re: Inconsistant Idle on 03 636

Hope u figure it out. I was talking to a friend today at the spot about his idling problem like this on his 636. It of course was acting up today too. Then, all of a sudden as soon as he clutched it up the bike shut off. Blown 30amp ign fuse. Replaced the fuse and all is well for about 15 minutes and then as he is sitting one down the fuse goes again. Now, it's a dead short somewhere, just got to find it b/c as soon as u turn the switch on she blows. The bike has a power commander but I would think that would blow the FI fuse if anything. I guess we will see. If he finds the short and if by chance it happens to fix the idle problem I will post up. I doubt it will affect the idle problem but who knows?
Also, does your bike that is idling rough have a power commander on it? That is one of the first things I disconnect when troubleshooting.

Re: Inconsistant Idle on 03 636

just follow from where it starts and where it ends cut it and splice in a new wire and it will save you trying to find the short
